Obituary For Linda Maria Heikel

It is with broken hearts the family of Linda Heikel announce her passing on Sunday, February 4, 2024 in Grande Prairie at the age of 68 years.

Linda was born April 10, 1955 in Beaverlodge, AB to Jack and Eva Heikel. She was welcomed by her big brother Erwin and soon to follow Linda would gain three more siblings: Randy, Wendy and Kathy.

Linda was raised on the family farm where she became an avid horseback rider and animal lover. However, her greatest love was born in 1976 when she welcomed her son Richard. The two spent their time in Elmworth, Grande Prairie and later moving to Sexsmith.

Linda and Richard’s family dynamic changed in 2001 when Linda met the love of her life Leo, plus three. Linda grew a strong, loving bond and gained three more boys. As a family they spent their days in Wembly and Elmworth where they enjoyed horseback riding and opening their home to those who needed a safe space to land. Sadly in 2014, Leo passed away, leaving Linda and the boys to be on their own.

Linda was a waitress as a young lady, but found her forever job with Canfor. She worked there for 30 plus years until she took early retirement at the age of 55.

Linda will be missed by her children: Richard Smith, Dustin Wayenberg, Cory Wayenberg and Shane Wayenberg; siblings: Randy (Simonne) Heikel, Wendy Grendys, Kathy (Randy) Stark; grandchildren that she loved so dearly; as well as nieces and nephews.

Linda was predeceased by her mom Eva, dad Jack, brother Erwin and her love Leo.

A Graveside service will be held Monday, February 12, 2024, processional beginning at 2:00pm from Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.) to the Elmworth Cemetery (Hwy 722 west of Grande Prairie).
