Obituary For Lech Adam Kwiatkowski

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lech Kwiatkowski, on Saturday, November 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 69 years. Beloved husband, father, Dzia Dzia (grandfather), brother, uncle, and friend; he will be greatly missed.

Lech was born in Szamocin, Poland, on July 30, 1953, to parents Józef and Jadwiga. After finishing grade school, he attended a mining and geology program to further his studies. Lech was a member of the Polish Marine Corps for several years before becoming a Commercial Fisherman, which allowed him the opportunity to see many parts of the world. Lech immigrated to Canada where he met his future wife, Anna. They were married in Grande Prairie, AB, in 1984, where they stayed to raise their daughter, Monika.

Lech’s career in Canada included employment with Northern Bottling Distributors Ltd., Globe Fire, and finally GP Fire Extinguisher & Safety Ltd. until June 2022. He loved his job at GP Fire Extinguisher because of the people he worked for and all of his wonderful coworkers. Thank you, Rick and Linda, for your kindness throughout the years.

Lech enjoyed road trips throughout Alberta and British Columbia with his family. His pastimes included staying up to date on current world affairs, watching the Edmonton Oilers, fishing, and entertaining his grandchildren with card games and playing outdoors.

Lech is survived by his wife Anna; daughter Monika (Kent) Ruether; the best grandchildren Kate and Koen; older sisters: Ludka (Stefan), Irena, and Jolanta; sisters in-law: Maria and Ewa (Adam); brother in-law Krzysiek; as well as many nieces and nephews who all reside in Poland.

He was predeceased by his mother Jadwiga and father Józef; brothers in-law Andrzej and Tadeusz; as well as grandparents Józef and Jadwiga Jułga.

The family would like to thank Dr. Beuker, Dr. Hattingh, and the staff at the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre; and the staff on Unit 23 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

A Prayer Service will be held in memory of Lech on Thursday, November 24, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, at 10:00am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404-102 St.). Interment to follow. We invite everyone to a luncheon in Tranquille Hall following the Funeral Service and Interment.

Memorial Donations on Lech’s behalf may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (710 10123 99 St., Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1).
