Obituary For Larry Elmer Anderson

Larry Anderson, resident of Sexsmith, AB, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, in his home, at the age of 84 years.

Larry was born on January 3, 1938, in Grande Prairie, AB. Larry grew up on the original homestead north of Sexsmith. This is where he lived the majority of his life, alongside his wife Vella and their four boys. He passed on his love of farming, first to David, then to Jason. Larry wore may hats in the work world: bus driver, seismic labourer, gravel hauler, and transmission and tire shop hand.

You could always count on Larry for a silly song or rhyme to be sung around the table or campfire. He loved to reminisce about Trixie, the old grey mare from his younger years.

Larry could always be found in his woodshop building beautiful clocks, or in his garage tinkering on one of his many old tractors that he fondly referred to as “Junk”. Larry was a 50+ member of the Elks of Canada and spent countless hours volunteering for the Sexsmith Museum, school board, and many other community organizations.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Vella; children: Evan, David (Lee-Ann), Aaron (Teresa), and Jason (Kodi); grandchildren: Kale, Sydney, Sawyer, Keyana, Quintara, Jordan, Mikayla, Teron, Samantha, Braden, and Summer; as well as great-grandchildren Peyton and Maria.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Fred and Irene Anderson, and sister Joyce Tomshak.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 2:00pm, at Sexsmith Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (9928 97 St.). Memorial Service to follow at 3:00pm. Fellowship to follow at the Sexsmith Civic Centre (99 Ave.).

Memorial Donations may be made to Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children (2631 28 Ave., #402, Regina, SK S4S 6X3).

Larry was a huge part of our lives. He welcomed us into his family and church like we were his own. Always giving a helping hand......delivering us manor for our garden, the best hugs, a listening ear when we needed him, even driving us to the airport with a 1 year old for us to catch our flights at 4am,. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. We loved the stories he always told about the olden days and how his family landed in Alberta,. We had many lunches and snacks and suppers together and you never misses a birthday or christmas for our boys or us....always so thoughtful, You will always be our family Larry we love you more than words can say. Prayers going out to all of the family and people that loved him. And Dear Vella we love you so much. Wish we were closer. May you rest in peace.....grampa Larry as my kids would call you, Love always Julie McCloskey, Jody Walters, Mason (aka Butch...Larrys nickname for Mason) & Isaac xoxoxoxox
