Obituary For Kenneth Kamieniecki

Kenneth “Ken” Matthew Kamieniecki longtime resident of Grande Prairie, AB, went to the home prepared for him in heaven on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Ken was born on April 12, 1933, in North Star, AB, to Walter and Leokadia Kamieniecki. He was the third oldest of nine children.

Ken was raised in Manning, AB, where he attended school until Grade 8. He then went out to work. One of his first jobs was on the rigs while helping on his family’s farm. He met the love of his life, Marlene (nee Moessner) and they were married on July 22, 1957, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie. They lived in Grande Prairie and farmed in Manning until they sold the farm in 2004.

Ken was a certified auto and heavy-duty mechanic and welder. He was also an accomplished autobody specialist. Most of his working career was at Harry’s Auto Wrecking and Borstad Welding and Carthage. Ken could fix anything that the children, grandchildren, friends, or neighbors brought to him. He was willing to help anyone.

Ken was a very devoted family man to his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered by everyone who knew him for his kind hospitality and generosity.

Ken also loved his second family, his faith community. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus as a young man and, upon his passing, he was a dedicated 4th degree knight. He was an usher and served on the funeral ministry for many years. He enjoyed greeting and meeting people at the Sunday morning pancake breakfast.

Ken will be sadly missed by his three children: daughter Monica (Claude) Normandeau and their children: Nathan (Renee), Naomi (Joel Babineau), and Natasha (Donald Wilson); son Kerry (Kelly) Kamieniecki, and their children: Carlie (fiancé Brent Warren), and Kenneth (Sheena); son Troy (Lori) Kamieniecki and their children: Mathew (Justine Morin) and Katrina Kamieniecki (Justin DeBruin); great-grandchildren: Isla and Cassidy Babineau, and Galia and Amadeus Normandeau; sisters Teresa Maine and Wanda (Jean Louis) Boucher; brother Julius (Janina) Kamieniecki; sisters in-law Irma Kamieniecki, and Mary Jane Kamieniecki; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ken was predeceased by his wife Marlene; parents Walter and Leokadia Kamieniecki; and bothers: Edward, Stanley, Henry, Ted, and Frank.

We wish to thank Ken’s neighbors and Homecare who helped look after him in his home after Marlene passed away. Thank you to all the nurses, Homecare staff and administration at Lakeview Lodge who provided him with loving care. Thank you to the nurses, and Homecare staff at Prairie Lakes who cared for Ken so affectionately during his final days. Thank you to Dr. Ojudon for his compassionate care and to the wonderful nurses on 3 and 5 North at the QEII Hospital who attended to Ken during his numerous hospital stays and in his final days in palliative care.

Prayers will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 7:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005-107 Ave).

The Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 1:00pm at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404-102 Street).
