Obituary For Kenneth Gordon Perry
It is with profound sadness we share that Ken Perry, of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, surrounded by his family.
Born in Fort St. John, British Columbia, to parents Edith and Bert Perry, Ken was the youngest of three children. He was raised alongside his sister, Linda, and brother, David, in a loving and caring family within the close-knit Fort St. John Airport Community. His childhood was filled with the warmth of family, an array of sports, and the freedom to explore the outdoors. Ken enjoyed hockey, baseball, basketball, curling, and downhill skiing. As a young man, a passion for flying led Ken to earn his pilot’s licence.
Upon graduation from North Peace High School, Ken attended Grande Prairie Regional College, where he played college basketball. He then transferred to the University of Alberta to pursue a degree in economics. There, he met and married the love of his life, Lorna.
After graduation, Ken pursued his passion of a career in the investment industry, opening and managing the Grande Prairie office for Nesbitt Thomson Bongard Inc. In 1992, Ken established his own investment firm, Perry Securities Ltd. Always eager for adventure, Ken and Lorna built their life together while raising their two children, Scott and Carlene, and contributing to the Grande Prairie community. The North captured Ken’s love of the outdoors. A gifted athlete with a competitive spirit, he took up river-boating, fishing, hunting, backcountry hiking, tennis, cycling, running, and cross-country skiing, whether on his own, with family, friends, or with anyone willing. He was always challenging his own limits and capabilities.
Ken’s quiet, cheerful, and thoughtful disposition endeared him to many. He was generous with his time, helpful to others, and committed to supporting sport, particularly the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club and the Grande Prairie Tennis Club. He was a lifelong independent thinker with a unique and witty sense of humour. Never fearful of taking on life, he lived each day fully, holding his family close and loving them deeply.
Ken will be forever cherished and remembered by his wife of 49 years, Lorna, son and daughter, Scott (Laura) and Carlene (Jared), as well as five precious grandchildren, Win Perry, Gray Perry, Frances Perry, Perry Huddleston, and Kit Huddleston.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Five Mile Hall (714003 Range Rd 53, east of Grande Prairie).
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully received by Wapiti Nordic Ski Club (Box 1176, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B6), Grande Prairie Tennis Club (Box 21055, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6W7), Glioblastoma Research at the Neuro Clinical Research Unit at McGill University—Montreal (https://www.mcgill.ca/neuro/donate), or the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research, Sunnybrook Foundation—Toronto (https://donate.sunnybrook.ca/gord).
