Obituary For Kelly Jo-Allan McGladdery

Kelly Jo-Allan McGladdery, resident of Elmworth, AB, formerly of Fort McMurray, AB, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital, at the age 48 of years.

Kelly was born on May 2, 1973, in Castlegar, BC. Kelly was the second of 4 children born to Allan and Judy McGladdery. At the age of 5, his family moved to Silver Valley, AB. After graduating high school, he moved to Grande Prairie, AB, to attend GPRC. Kelly later moved on to Kamloops, BC, to start his Heavy Duty Mechanic training course at the Kamloops College. In 1993, Kelly was given the opportunity to move to Fort McMurray to work at Finning and continue his training, he did that and went on to receive his Red Seal Heavy Duty Technician ticket. It was here in 1997, that Kelly met Amy through friends, and they began dating. In 2001, their first son, Kaleb was born and a short 16 months later their second son, Aidan came along. Kelly and Amy married in 2005, and moved their family out to the farm in Elmworth. In 2012, their last son Little Mike was born.

In 2014, Kelly finally bought his own service truck, and began to work for himself. He continued to work as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, working out of Fort McMurray, Tumbler Ridge, and Fox Creek at times. On days off he enjoyed puttering around in his own shop and doing farm chores but he always made sure to have some fun too. Many adventures were had, camping, quading, and on boating trips with friends and family.

Kelly loved the outdoors, he loved fishing, hunting, and boating, especially loved being on the water. In 2018, he bought his first sailboat, a little 12-foot practice boat. He would watch videos and read articles about sailing in magazines and when the weather was right, Kelly would head out to the lake and set sail. In 2019, Kelly bought his “retirement plan”, a 25-foot sailboat that he and Amy were going to sail out on the ocean. Sadly, they were never to fulfil that dream.

Kelly fell ill in October of 2020, and after many tests and hospital stays, it was discovered that he had a rare type of cancer. In May of 2021, he started his chemotherapy treatments. Kely spent the summer with his kids, visiting family and friends, he was enjoying the limited time he had left. Kelly wound up getting pneumonia in August and was hospitalized in Grande Prairie, but was later moved to Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital to be closer to home. Kelly passed away peacefully, with his wife at his side after spending the morning with his boys.

Kelly will be truly missed by his wife Amy; 3 sons: Kaleb, Aidan, and Michael McGladdery; nephew Chance Pardy of Grande Prairie; parents Allan and Judy McGladdery; sisters Nona (Jeff) Ives and Becky McGladdery of Peace River, AB; brother Donald (Karlie) McGladdery of Beaverlodge; sister in-law Penny Beaugand of Fort McMurray. Kelly was uncle to Nathan Ives, Jadon Ives, and Kalon Ives, Hanna McGladdery, Emalayne McGladdery, Charlize McGladdery, Caris Larry and Chayse Larry; great-uncle to Emma Rose, Bexly Ann, and Liam; he will be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and by his community.

Amy and the family would like to send a big thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital, the nurses and the staff of the 5th floor of the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie. We really appreciate all the kindness and love they showed to Kelly, myself and our family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 2:00pm, at the Rio Grande Rodeo Grounds in the Pavilion (703054 RR 121, Rio Grande, AB).
