Obituary For Kay Arthur Maple
Kay Arthur Maple, resident of Clairmont, AB, formerly of La Glace, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 87 years.
Kay was born in Sexsmith, AB, on July 22, 1938, and spent his early years in La Glace, where he attended school and built the foundation for a life rooted in hard work, family, and community.
Throughout his life, Kay worked as a farmer and served as a custodian at the La Glace Arena and Curling Club. During the winter months, he also worked for Crown Catering.
Kay had a passion for sports, with baseball and curling holding a special place in his heart. Whether participating, cheering from the sidelines, or sharing stories of the game, sports brought him great enjoyment throughout his life.
Known for his outgoing nature and kind heart, Kay never met a stranger. He had a special love for children and animals and was devoted to his beloved wife, Joyce.
In his spare time, Kay enjoyed baseball, bonspieling, hunting, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. He treasured the time spent with those he loved and created many lasting memories through life's simple pleasures.
Kay will be lovingly remembered by his children, Calvin (Lynn) and Derek of Grande Prairie; grandchildren Myriah and Jordan of Grande Prairie; great-grandchildren Dahlia, Makeda, Kace, Zoey, Emerson, and Atticus; nephew Kelly (Trudy) Seabrook of Grande Prairie; brother-in-law Bert (Madeline) of Edmonton; sister Eileen Karpinski of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Kay was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joyce Ann Maple; his parents, Arthur and Della Maple; parents-in-law, Wilburn and Mary; grandson Andrew; brothers-in-law Ed, Glenn, John, and Terry; and sister-in-law Rita.
A Celebration of Life for Kay will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005-107 Avenue) in Grande Prairie, with a luncheon to follow.
Interment will follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave & 112 St).
