It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Mary Hommy (née Riendeau) on Thursday, October 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 63.

Karen was born on February 24, 1963, in Grande Prairie, AB, to Mary and Raymond Riendeau. She spent her life building a family with her husband, Lance, and a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Karen was so many things to so many people—a loving wife, devoted mom, proud grandma, daughter, sister, and friend. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, supported, and loved. Her calm presence, kindness, and thoughtfulness will be remembered by everyone who knew her.

Karen was also a wonderful hostess who loved bringing together the people she cared about. Sunday suppers around the table with family, elaborate Christmas Eve celebrations, and evenings spent playing cards with friends were among the moments she cherished most. Her home was a place where people gathered, laughed, and always felt welcome.

Her grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart. She treasured every moment with them and was so proud of the people they were becoming.

For five years, Karen bravely battled breast cancer with incredible courage, strength, and grace, never allowing her illness to define her.

Above all, Karen will be remembered for the love she gave so freely. Her family will carry her with them in everything they do, and her grandchildren will grow up knowing how deeply their grandma loved them.

Karen will be deeply missed by her husband, Lance; her son, Ryley (Reagan), and their children, Phoenix, Hailey, Daxtyn, and Korben; her daughter, Haley (Brian), and their children, Mila and Bennett; her siblings, Gary (Janet), Greg, Albert (Sharon), and Tom (Cindy); nieces and nephews, Bobbi (Darrel), Nikki (Mike), Michael; Carrie (Dean), Clint (Danielle), Garret; David (Dez), Dustin (Linsy), Draypr, Chase (Tiffany), Dani (Brandon); Jody (Ray), Mark; and Ethan; her father-in-law, Milton (Papa); mother-in-law Patricia (Nana); brother-in-law Adair (Mindy); and nieces and nephews, Adam (Renee), Jared, and Lisa (Trevor), as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Mary; sister Judy (Rick); brother-in-law Troy; sister-in-law Tami (Ron); and nephew Joel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005-107 Ave), followed by fellowship and refreshments in Oliver’s Tea Room. Shortly after 4:00 p.m., interment will take place at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave & 112 St).
