Obituary For Judy Anne Flaherty
In Loving Memory of Judy Flaherty
Judy Flaherty, a longtime resident of Grande Prairie and formerly of Spirit River, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the age of 62.
Judy was born on May 5, 1964, in Spirit River, Alberta, to Walter and Olga Howrish. She was raised in Spirit River, where she attended Spirit River Public High School, graduating in 1982. She went on to pursue her education at Grande Prairie Regional College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Throughout her life, Judy held a variety of roles that reflected her many talents and her love of working with people. She worked as the manager of Greenview Golf Course, in bookkeeping, and as a recreational coordinator. No matter the position, Judy brought dedication, creativity, and a genuine passion for what she did.
Judy spent 20 years living in Grande Prairie, including time at Cozy Cove, followed by seven years in New Denver, before returning to Grande Prairie in 2019.
Judy had a love for art, the outdoors, and all animals. She had a huge heart, a generous spirit, and an unwavering love for her family. Those who knew Judy will remember her for her compassion, creativity, and ability to bring joy and personality into everything she did.
One of Judy’s greatest passions was her work at Emerald Gardens. She had such a genuine love for her job, her residents, and her staff. Her passion for making a difference in the lives of others was truly special, and she was always finding ways to create a little extra awesomeness wherever she went.
For Judy, her work was about so much more than a job. She cared deeply for her residents and took great pride in making their lives brighter, creating meaningful moments, and ensuring Emerald Gardens was a wonderful place to live and work. She built special relationships with the residents and staff, who became an important part of her life. Her dedication, compassion, and beautiful spirit made a lasting difference, and the love she poured into her work will never be forgotten.
Judy had a remarkable ability to bring people together and make ordinary days feel a little more special. Her warmth, creativity, and caring nature left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She truly made a difference, and her legacy will live on in all the lives she touched.
Judy will be sadly missed by her mother, Olga Howrish; her sisters, Dianne, Sherry (Dave), and Cathy (Laurent); and her brothers, Dwayne (Gail) and Jim (Maxie). She will also be lovingly remembered by her three nieces, Kristen, Jenna, and Kori; four nephews, Jody, Matt, Riley, and Shane; six great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
Judy was predeceased by her father, Walter Howrish; her nephew, Troy Munro; her grandparents; and the sweet babies she held in her heart but never got to hold in her arms.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and physicians of Unit 23 at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and to Prairie Lake Hospice for their care, compassion, and support.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca).
Judy’s passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of her family, friends, residents, and colleagues. She will be remembered for her big heart, love for others, passion for her work, and the countless ways she made life a little brighter for those around her.

So sorry to hear the passing of Judy, my cousin. Although we weren't close as life goes on, but my fondest memory is when she was a baby and the family came to visit us in Edson. We didn't have a crib for her so we made a bed for her in a Chiquita Banana box so that she was safe. I was 14 and fell in love with her. Rest in Peace Judy💕💕💕
