Obituary For Jorge Orlando Pizarro Reyes
It is with deep sadness, yet immense gratitude and admiration for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of Jorge Orlando Pizarro Reyes. Jorge passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends after a courageous journey with cancer. He approached the end of his life with the same strength, dignity, and remarkable sense of humour that defined him, continuing to bring smiles to those around him—even in his final days.
Jorge was born on April 17, 1951, in Sewell, Chile, and was predeceased by his parents, Juan Luis Gonzalez Perez and Aurelia Ercilia Reyes Avilés, his beloved sister, Matilde Gonzalez Reyes, and his niece, Maria Angelica McEachern.
On November 6, 1977, Jorge and the love of his life, Graciela Fierro Pizarro, immigrated to Canada from Buenos Aires, Argentina, beginning a new chapter together in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Together they built a life founded on love, hard work, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to family. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep affection that endured throughout their lives.
Jorge was a devoted husband, a loving father to Valeria Pizarro Fierro, Alejandra Pizarro Quevedo, and Claudia Pizarro Quevedo, and a proud grandfather to Katalina Aurelia Pizarro, Graham Sebastin Carnwell, Alexis, and Nicolás. He also leaves behind his sister, Angelica Gonzalez Reyes, and his brother, Artimeo Segundo Pizarro Reyes, along with many extended family members and cherished friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and generosity.
To know Jorge was to know someone who never hesitated to help others. Whether supporting his family, assisting a friend, or lending a hand to someone in need, he gave generously of himself without expecting anything in return. His wisdom, strength, and compassion made him a role model to many. Above all, he will be remembered for his extraordinary ability to find humour in every circumstance. Even in the face of serious illness, he reminded those around him that laughter has the power to bring comfort, hope, and connection. His ability to laugh and his sharp Chilean wit enabled him to laugh right to the very end, giving a final gift to those who loved him.
Jorge had an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for life. He loved boating, soccer, and his beloved team, Club Universidad de Chile, and even embraced Canada’s own game of hockey to become a fervent Edmonton Oilers fan. He cherished opportunities to create lasting memories with the people he loved most. After spending a brief retirement in his homeland of Chile, they returned to his adopted home of Canada to live out his days close to his daughter Valeria and grandchildren Katalina and Graham. He and Graciela fulfilled a long-held dream of travelling through Europe with their family following his diagnosis. It was a journey that reflected the way Jorge chose to live—with bravery, humour, courage, and an unwavering commitment to making every moment count.
Although his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Jorge's legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.
