We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For John Steven Sims

John Steven Sims, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 76 years.

John was born in Calgary on August 18, 1949, to Don and Judith Sims. He was raised there, along with his three siblings, Earl, Sharon, and Loyd.

For more than 40 years, John worked primarily as a heavy-duty mechanic. He was never afraid to get his hands dirty. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, as well as a pursuer of his passion for photography.

John was quite the character. He had a great sense of humour and could make anyone laugh. A kind man, he left a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to call him their friend. John was generous to a fault. He would give you a hand and offer help, even if it meant he might suffer because of it. He was faithful, someone who was there for everyone.

Family was deeply important to John. He was a proud father to Christy Sims (48) and Steven Sims (46), as well as a very proud “Grandad” to Steve and Jenna’s children, Berkeley Sims (7) and Brixton Sims (6).

He was predeceased by two of his siblings, Earl Sims and Sharon Bentley.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.

Forever loved, forever remembered.

To my best friend. Thanks for all the memories. We shared so much. We made up the distance by talking for hours on the phone. My family loved him and we were lucky to have him to share many family events. I will forever miss you. God speed John. 🌹❤️
