Obituary For John Lesly Shumard

John Lesly Shumard, resident of Dixonville, Alberta, formerly of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Dixonville, AB at the age of 75 years.

John was born on August 10, 1949, in Sexsmith, AB and raised in the Berwyn area. He met Patsy Hovdebo and they married in 1972. Together they raised three children and were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. John went to Edmonton to obtain his mechanic license and eventually opened a business in Grande Prairie. He retired from working at the mechanic shop and drove truck for a few years before moving to the cabin and officially retiring.

His hobbies included river boating with friends, fishing, travelling to Mexico, and most recently he loved puttering around the cabin on his tractor and Rhino. He also took great pride in his garden.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Patsy, and children Michelle (Mike), Jodi (Ken), Billy (Casi). Grandchildren; Jessica (Devin), Sarah and Nicole, Makenna (Chris), John Darren and Isabella, Tanner (Sierra), Koltin Josie and Sadie. Great-grandchildren: Mason, Lauren and Aurora. Siblings; Bill (Anne), Steve (Laura), Erin (Robert). In Laws Sharon, Betty (Willy), Glenda, Robbie (Kim), Jackie (Darrell), Gary, Brent (Charlene) Judy (Brent), Lois (Dwayne) and special friend Reyna in Mexico, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by Sister Aileen, sister-in-law Sylvia, brothers-in-law Ray and Philip as well as daughter-in-law Mandy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
