Obituary For John Gordon Wiebe

We are sad to announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather John Gordon Wiebe, a long-time resident of Grande Prairie, AB, who passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the age of 91 years.

John was born March 2, 1930, in Didsbury, AB. In his teens he moved with his mother to the Fraser valley in BC. While living and working in Vancouver, BC, he met Jane, and they got married on February 24, 1956. In the summer of 1960, they moved to Grande Prairie with their two young children. He had worked out of Vancouver as a travelling shoe salesman and thought Grande Prairie would be a good place to open Top Shoes. He operated Top Shoes (in the later years with Russ) for 34 years.

John enjoyed weekends at the cabin at Sturgeon Lake and being a snowbird during retirement. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and the Shriners.

John will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years Jane; children Janis & Percy Britton, and Russell & Carol Wiebe; grandpa will be missed by his three grandsons and their wives: Matthew & Courtney Britton, Keenan & Chelsey Wiebe, and Mitchell & Kelsey Britton; great-grandpa will always be remembered by his six great-grandchildren: Mackenzee, Casey, Bode, Karter, Camryn and Asher.

At John’s request there will be no service held.

Just read of John's passing today ( Mar 28/24) Had no contact for many years but fond memories from back in the 50's. We knew him as Johnny back then. Johnny and Jane gave me an Elvis 45 for my 14th birthday. I still have it. A cousin on his mother's side, Gordie
