Obituary For John Dyck

John Dyck Jr. resident of Savanna, Alberta passed away at Grande Prairie, AB on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the age of 90 years.

John was born on September 30, 1934, in Carrot River, Saskatchewan to Aganetha and John H, Dyck. At approximately nine years of age, John and family moved to Southern Alberta, where John spoke many times about hoeing beets. John also worked at Manyberries at a ranch.

When John was twenty-one, he came to the north country with his dad, Frank, Mary and Helen to build a house. Later that fall, the rest of the family followed. John was a pioneer. He worked seismic in High Level and sawmill for Fox’s. John loved farming, he always said that you need to plant oats because you could always get money for it. As John was passing, he would always ask the boys “do you have your oats seeded”.

John retired at 80 and got married for the first time. John and Betty lived in the Fourth Creek area. They did a mail run for Canada Post, always travelling together and enjoying each other’s company.

John is survived by his wife Betty, stepsons, Joe and Michael and families, sisters Bertha Emard and Susie Frostad, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his mennonite children.

John was predeceased by his parents Aganetha and John, brothers, Benny, Frank and Peter. Sisters: Kay, Helen, Mary, Alma, Anne and Liz.

Special thanks to Prairie Lake Hospice and Justina Crocker for her devotion, and also to our Mennonite children.

A Traditional Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Savanna Rec Plex (81378 Range Rd 100, Silver Valley, AB). Interment to follow at 2:30 pm at Alexview Cemetery, Silver Valley, Alberta
