Obituary For John Bernard Case

Enid Case, née Clarke (July 8, 1940 – October 31, 2025)

and

John Bernard Case (March 12, 1935 - November 4, 2025)

The family of John and Enid would like to share the news of their peaceful passing at home, just days apart, surrounded by family.

Born in Lancashire and Sheffield, they met as a newly qualified Specialist General surgeon and a Registered nurse and married in 1963. In January 1970, they immigrated to a shockingly cold and remote Grande Prairie, AB (population about 12 000), with their 3 young children. As the first surgeon in northwestern Alberta, Dr. Case attended everything from orthopaedics to neurosurgery to obstetrics and beyond. Enid managed the business of the medical practice and the family home.

They retired to Qualicum Beach in 2004, where Enid renovated, gardened and walked, among many other activities. John enjoyed classical music and poetry and wrote his memoirs in a 3-book series.

They are survived by their children David (Annette), Douglas (Michelle), and Catherine (Gary), and grandchildren Kirsti (Chris), Tyler (Laura), Michaela, Mackenzie, Nikita (Tanner), Brianna (Justin) and Alexander.

At the request of Enid and John, there will be no memorial service.

I was an OR nurse and was Johns only scrub nurse which I enjoyed. Immensely he was an awesome surgeon and a more awesome kind human being. We had great times in the OR and was made a better nurse.

To David, Doug, and dear Catherine, I had the pleasure of your parents friendship for many years. Enid, John and all the kids attended my salons until they moved to the coast in 2004. I visited them when I was on the Island and just adored this family so very much. They will be so missed! God bless and I offer my true condolences to this family. They left a real legacy in Grande Prairie.

To the Case family We are so sorry to see the passing of John and Enid. We have many fond memories from our time together in GP as well as the fishing trips to the coast taken by Mike and John A long held memory is when our son had an emergency appendectomy completed short days before a fishing trip. John wanted to know if the trip was on cancellation but we said it depends on how good a job he does in the OR We will miss them and may they rest in peace Mike and Gail Frey
