Obituary For Joan Margaret Ford

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Margaret Ford. Joan passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2025 at the age of 84 in her home surrounded by her family.

Joan was born on March 19th, 1941, to Ernest and Margaret (Peggy) Robideau. She grew up in Bezanson, Alberta, on a small quarter section farm. After attending school in Bezanson and later Grande Prairie High School, she moved to Edmonton with her sister Betty for a few years before returning home. In 1960, she married the love of her life, Elmer Ford, and together they raised two children, Ernie and Brenda. Joan and Elmer spent time living in Fort McMurray before eventually moving back to Bezanson in 1968 to be closer to family.

Throughout her life, Joan worked hard and wore many hats. She was a waitress, a retail worker, school janitor, manager, and support worker for people with disabilities. No matter the role, she gave it her all and earned the respect of those around her. Everyone was always welcome at Joan’s house, it was a sanctuary for many. Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter and love. Family was her greatest joy. Although her immediate family was small, she treated everyone she befriended as family. Joan had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She never let anyone leave her home hungry or without their favorite drink in hand. Even in her final days, she was the best host, making sure those around her were well cared for.

Her personality sparkled, and she had a way of lighting up every room she entered. She was a true social butterfly who loved keeping in touch with everyone she met and always found joy in reconnecting with friends old and new.

Joan leaves behind her daughter Brenda (Rob), granddaughter Alyssa, sister Terry (Ed) Hildebrand, sisters-in-law Donna Ford and Marian Ford, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Margaret (Peggy), her husband Elmer, her son Ernie, and siblings Nancy, Joyce, Betty, Rita, and Alan, as well as many other family members and friends who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.

A special thank-you goes to Donna Ford, who traveled from Okanagan Falls to be with Joan in her final weeks. Your love and support meant the world to her and allowed her to remain at home, just as she wished, until she was ready to say goodbye.

In lieu of a funeral, Joan celebrated her life with a beautiful gathering on August 13th, 2025, just days before her passing. She was truly the life of the party and would not have wanted to miss it. Joan wanted to thank everyone who attended and made it such an amazing day for her. If you were unable to attend and would like to honour her memory, we invite you to raise a glassβ€”preferably a shot of rye whiskyβ€”and toast to the wonderful life she lived.

Funeral Arrangements are the direction of Chapel of Memories Ltd.
