Obituary For Joan Elizabeth Whiteway

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joan E. Whiteway, announces her passing at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the age of 65 years.

Born January 12, 1957, to John and Maude Whiteway of St. Juliens, NL. She moved to Goose Cove, NL, and raised her three daughters. She had a warm heart, and her joy of knitting and quilting kept many family and friends warm. Joan was a hard worker and was always there to lend a hand. If you needed help, you just had to mention it. She was someone you could always count on.

Joan was a very strong and independent person. She was a generous and loyal mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She gave to anyone in need. Her motto was “If I can’t give that, it’s not much odds.”

Joan will be dearly missed by her daughters: Sylvia (Scott), Nicole (Luke), and Chelsea (Eric); grandchildren Dominique (Johnathan) and Ryder; siblings: Edward (Bonnie), Lill (Ed), Anne (Wayne), Gord (Laverne), Rose (Kev), Ken (Regina), Daphne (Dwayne), Sharon (Roy), and Cora (Jeff); sister in-law Jackie; as well as all her work family at Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony, NL.

She was predeceased by parents John and Maude Whiteway, brother Kevin and sister Phyllis.

Our hearts are heavy, but we take comfort in knowing she is free from her pain.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5).

Joan was truly one if the kindest people I have known. She was always giving and helping someone. She would buy tickets from me and always she'd give me an extra five or ten dollars and she would say that's ok give the change to Maggie ❤️If I said "Joan knit me a few dish cloths will ya I'll buy them off ya" she would say and that's what you won't buy them off me. I can hear her now , she'd say, yes a few old cloths pretty bad now ya can't give them away! Joan was a kind and Beautiful person, she loved her children and spoke so highly of her girls and grandchildren. We shared many laughs and good conversations at the hospital, God bless you always, RIP beautiful lady. Condolences to all the family, God Bless you all!
