In Loving Memory of Jean Christopherson

Jean passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 90.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Doreen (Glenn) Moodie and Shelley Sutherland; sister Carol (Wes) Sorenson; brother-in-law Norman Stefan; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Walter; son Dave; grandson Micheal; sisters Corrinne and Linda; brother Jim; and sons-in-law John Thomsen and Robin Sutherland.

Family and extended family were very important to her. The family included many extras who were adopted through the years. Jean loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids, as well as teaching preschool and kindergarten. Those were the highlights of her life. She will always be fondly remembered as “Aunty Jean,” not wanting to be referred to as Mrs. Christopherson. She found that was too formal and very hard for the little people to wrap their tongues around. Jean had a big heart for seniors and worked in the Hythe Pioneer Home. No one was too young or too old.

Her door was always open and welcoming for company. Jean was a social butterfly and enjoyed her parties. She planned both her 25th and 40th anniversary parties and had wanted a special party for her 90th birthday. That same year, her sister Corrinne turned 85, so a double party was in order. Jean was so happy in her element, with a huge turnout to celebrate both sisters. She had also planned many family reunions and just got to enjoy the last one in June of this year.

The family would like to extend many thanks to the caring staff of Mackenzie Place - 1 East and to all the people who came to honour Mom’s life and say goodbye. You all meant a lot to her and held a special place in her heart.

Jean’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Albright Community Hall in Beaverlodge, Alberta (104024 Township Rd 724A). Everyone in attendance, please consider yourself a honourary pallbearer. Interment will follow at the Gimle Cemetery in Beaverlodge (723061 Range Rd 110). Afterward, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon back at the hall.
