Obituary For Janyce Thiemann (Hills)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Janyce Thiemann (née Hills). She passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 67.

Janyce was the third child of Bruce and Frances Hills (née Sutton), born and raised in Fort Nelson, BC. She began her family early, and being a mother became one of her greatest joys. Anyone who knew Janyce will remember her resilience, quick wit, and unmistakable sass that made her so uniquely herself—qualities that persisted until her final days. Her laughter, warmth, and ability to make others feel at home will be deeply missed.

She found joy in the simple things: cooking, baking, camping, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. Janyce gave much of herself to her community, spending over 25 years working at Fort Nelson General Hospital. After retiring, she poured her energy into sewing, quilting, and volunteering with the Lamplighters Society. Whether she was helping at the thrift shop, organizing loonie auctions, or cooking for community events, she always showed up with a full heart and willing hands.

Janyce is survived by her children, Billy Thiemann (Tracey), Sherry Thiemann (Rom), and Debra Thiemann (Thomas); her grandchildren, Alyssa van der Eerden, Blake Thiemann, Cole Thiemann, and Liam Kuc; as well as her sisters, Bobbi Fitzgerald (Mike) and Jackie Paul. Each of them carries a piece of her spirit forward.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Frances Hills; her husband, Allan Thiemann; and her spouse, Cameron Cooper.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and care during her final days.

A funeral service will be announced at a later date and is expected to take place in late spring to early summer in Fort Nelson, BC, where Janyce’s story began and where she will be laid to rest among the people and places she loved.

I met Janyce through her kids and my kids as happens in many small towns. She was always someone you count on to help out with anything especially if her kids were involved. She always had a ready laugh and we did talk aching knees of course. She will be missed by this community who she loved and we loved her back. Heartfelt hugs and love to her family, especially Sherry, Billie and Debra. Much Love Debbie Mitchell (Kerr)
