  • Irene Riding was my inspiration for becoming a teacher. She was a tall, striking looking woman who did not tolerate nonsense nor laziness in her classroom. She taught me 5th grade at Ridgevalley and I came to adore her. She was strict but so fair and had a great sense of humour. She always read to us right after the lunch break and I fell in love with reading, becoming a voracious reader. I wanted to grow up to be just like her. Years later I had the privilege of being a colleague when we both taught at Ridgevalley. Her influence as an educator touched generations. Rest easy Mrs. Riding, you will be so missed by so many. • Our deepest condolences to all of Irene's family and loved ones. Irene was a very genuine, compassionate and caring lady - she will never be forgotten. Ray and Barb Newman
