Helen Bogdanek, resident of Eaglesham, AB, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in Spirit River, AB, at the age of 88 years.

She was born on July 22, 1934, in Blueberry Mountain and was raised there. She often spoke of hardships and memorable times of growing up on the farm. She then ventured to Hamilton, ON, where she worked for five years. However, city life was not for her. Helen then went on to Spirit River where she met John, and they married in 1963. Two years later, their son Alvin was born, three years later their son Danny made his arrival.

Helen worked hard on the farm growing a larger garden, feeding animals, and doing yard work. She often gave the abundance of her garden to neighbours and friends. She did a lot of canning and loved picking berries in the river banks. Helen had a passion for growing flowers in her planters and flower beds. There were often fresh cut arrangements in the house. She was an excellent seamstress and spent many hours sewing for family and friends.

She was an outstanding cook, mostly known for her perogies, cabbage rolls, bread, banana muffins, and sauerkraut. Helen’s other hobbies included crocheting, knitting, ceramics, and flower arranging.

Her grandchildren meant everything to her. She enjoyed shopping for them, caring for them, and teaching them how to dance.

She will be sadly missed by her husband John; sons Alvin (Cheryl) and Danny; grandchildren: Tanya (Nick) Thibault, Tyler, and Brandon; great-grandchild Adalynn; brother Nick (Helen) Konashuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Eva Konashuk; brothers: Bill, Alex, and Tim; sisters Ann and Mary; sister in-law Agnes; as well as brothers in-law Ken Klarholm, Bill Bogdanek, and Steve Bogdanek.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 10:00am, at the Eaglesham Community Church (4905 51 St.). Service to follow at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Fox Creek Cemetery in Belloy, AB.
