Obituary For Harold George Hauger

Our dear Papa, Harold George Hauger, passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, March 22, 2026, two days into his 91st year.

The youngest of nine children, he was born on March 20, 1935, delivered by his own father inside the tiny log cabin they called home. Growing up just south of Beaverlodge, he loved the beautiful Peace Country. He never left it, except to travel the world, visit his ancestral home in Norway, or seek out the sun.

He was a skilled cat skinner and carpenter, but our dear Papa only ever wanted to be a farmer. His dream was always to own a small piece of land where he could raise cows as well as horses and give his children space to play. He purchased that piece of land and in 1963, with his own hands, built the home he would live in for the next sixty-plus years. It was there, with his wife, Joan, he raised his three children: Ralph (Maxine), Norma (Woody, deceased), and Brent (Charlotte). It was also there he loved to entertain his grandchildren: Jordan, Cody, and Karli Hauger; Justin, Mathew, and Robi Wirove; Daniel and Chelsea Hauger; and Sherida, Karl, and Mitchell Ellis. It was on that beloved chunk of land he healed from the grief he endured in 1961, after the loss of his infant son, Douglas.

Papa married his high school sweetheart, Joan Ethel Douglas, in 1956. After her passing in 1990, he married Jessie Ellen Robertson. Together, they continued to enjoy life on the farm until circumstances required a move to Hythe Pioneer Lodge in 2024.

Papa loved his family, his church, and his community. He loved to dance and he loved to fish. He especially loved to fish! He loved his morning, afternoon, and evening coffee. Thank you to those in our beautiful community who watched over him and stopped to share a cup.

Our Papa will be dearly missed. His love. His laughter. His truth. His wisdom. His kind and gentle spirit will be cherished by all who loved him.

Interment will take place at the Halcourt Cemetery following a private family service.

How blessed we are to have known our Papa’s love.
