Obituary For Guy Louis Landry

Guy Louis Landry was born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on April 22, 1954, to Punch (Stanley) Landry and Sue (Susan nee Neufeld) Landry. The youngest of three sons, he grew up on the family farm enjoying 4-H club activities including square dancing.

Starting school in Bonanza, Alberta, he finished grade 10 and 11 in Dawson Creek. Guy then stayed with his middle brother’s family and completed the first half of grade 12 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, where he joined the football team. When Dave and his family were transferred, he moved with them and graduated in Sherwood Park, Alberta, in 1972. He entered the Engineering program at the University of Alberta that fall. The following year, when Punch started to plan for retirement, Guy made the decision to buy the farm on a crop-share purchase plan. He then farmed, became an avid curler, and loved touring via motorcycle. Before retiring, he was employed in security and first aid work.

His main joy in life came from dancing with the Peace Country Dancers and his dance partner Julie Olsen. He shared his love of dance by teaching many others along the way. Unfortunately, an automobile accident in October 2022 left him with recurring health problems. Guy passed away unexpectedly in his apartment on July 7, 2025, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents and his oldest brother, Glen, and survived by his brother Dave (Rosemary) and several nieces and nephews.

He was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed by family, many friends and acquaintances. May he now feel no pain and rest in eternal peace.

For twenty years he was one of my closest friends. The memories of a life lived. I remember numerous country hall and curling dances, nights at Nightriders and other establishments. Guy perfecting his moves on and off the dance floor. Curling in many bonspiels , cashspiels and playdowns. Battling the Watchorns and others on the ice. Motorbike rides, fishing trips and many hours of philosophical conversations of politics and farming. His mind full of thoughts and opinions. The endless summers of BBQ Parties, digging pork pits and the tedious lab work of mad scientists, trying to perfect the perfect Long Island Ice Tea ,sip by sip but never quite right. All these memories, silhouettes of a time spent and gone. All these memories, too much to lose. No one ever leaves you. And he never did and never will. For twenty years he was a constant of me, You blink and you miss the next. What a wondrous beautiful soul. Always a smile, never a frown. Missed but never, forgotten. Love you Guy. Thank you for all you were to me and who you are in my heart.

Memory of Guy (mine/ours) from our long ago days (70s and 80s). I moved to Dawson Creek in Nov 1976, and met Guy shortly after arriving - introduced by neighbour Garth McRann. We had much in common, farming, 4-H and country dancing - and he introduced me to curling; and left me with many good time memories. My girl friend, Lois and I, enjoyed times together with him at many country dances; and then again when we returned with our family mid-80s; I also have many great curling and late night pool game memories with Guy at the Dawson Curling Club. Lois and I remember Guy as a wonderful 'guy', always smiling, always hopeful, even when things were not going as he had hoped. Sorry to hear of his passing...we too trust he rests in peace. Guy was great person to be around always on the dance floor. He loved the west coast swing and was good at it. He will be missed around the Peace Country Dance club with all his help. My sympathy goes out for such a sad loss

Guy was such an incredible dancer I got to practice west coast swing with him and he always would take the time to correct me when I would mess up. I will forever miss him.
