Obituary For Gordon Allen Girvan
Gordon A. Girvan, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Campbellton, NB, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 68 years.
Born on May 27, 1957, in Campbellton, NB, he was the son of now-deceased parents Alward and Rae Girvan.
As a young boy, Gordon was always mechanically inquisitive, needing to dismantle things to figure out how they worked. He learned carpentry skills from his father, later earning his diploma and becoming a certified journeyman carpenter. He was always ready, willing, and able to lend a hand to family and friends.
He migrated west to Edmonton, AB, eventually settling in Grande Prairie, seeking gainful employment like a lot of his friends and family had already done. Gordon’s skills allowed him to successfully work for many years as a hotel maintenance building manager. Gordon garnered a great deal of respect from his employers and staff. His knowledge, skills, and contacts allowed him to then venture out on his own and open his own business, repairing and selling commercial kitchen equipment to hotels and restaurants.
Unfortunately, Gordon suffered from severe brain aneurysms in November 2013. After a long recovery, he lived out his life quietly with his wife, Shirley Girvan, until he died suddenly from untreatable complications due to uncontrolled diabetes.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Shirley; stepdaughters Chrystal Hudson, Tracey Issac, and Shawna Fortin; his ten grandchildren, Quinn, Eve, Elijah, Jaydee, Jenna-Lynn, Courtney, Tyson, Alek, Darren, and Mikayla; three great-grandchildren; brother Bill Girvan (Viola “Vi” - deceased); sister Donna (Michael) Englehart; nephews Albert (Patty), Michael Jr. (Louisa), and Mark (Serena); brother Bruce (Clara) Girvan; niece Breanna, as well as nieces Christy and Kimberly from Bruce’s first marriage; brother Richard (Martina) Girvan; nieces Ginger (Aaron), Tina (Bryan), and Melissa (Ashley); sister Della (David) Hefford; nephews Bill (Sabrina) and Danny (Kathy); niece Tanya-Rae (Brett); sister Darla (Daniel) McKeil; and nieces Amber (Jordan) and Heather.
In addition to his parents, Gordon was also predeceased by his stepson, Jason; stepson-in-law Dolan; and brother Gary.
As per the wishes of Gordon and his family, there will not be a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca/) or the Alberta Diabetes Foundation (https://www.albertadiabetesfoundation.com/).
Rest in peace, Gordon.
