Obituary For Glenda Diane Wright

Glenda Diane Wright, resident of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, formerly a longtime resident of Eaglesham, Alberta, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Wetaskiwin General Hospital at the age of 81 years.

Glenda Diane Childers was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on the 29th of July 1944 to parents Lloyd and Milly Childers. She was raised on a farm setting in the hamlet of Eaglesham, Alberta, with two other siblings named Arlene Childers (Stenvall) and Beverly Childers (Moylan).

After graduating from Eaglesham High School in 1962, she relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, to attend McTavish Business College, graduating with an accounting/bookkeeping degree.

She returned to Eaglesham, Alberta, where she met local resident Ronald George Wright, and the two were married on the 3rd of April 1964 in Eaglesham. Shortly after, they were blessed with their first child, Shelly Lorraine Wright.

Later, two more children arrived: Derry Ronald Wright in July of 1968 and Kelvin Lloyd Wright in January of 1970.

Glenda enjoyed the agricultural way of life, raising the family on a cattle farm, putting her bookkeeping skills to good use, and proudly raising the children with their father in a quiet, honest, and humble setting. She was known for her great gardening ambitions, harvesting and canning all her garden goods, and baking with fresh ingredients produced from the farm. From freshly baked bread to pastries like cinnamon buns and donuts, there was always plenty of food for family and friends to consume and enjoy. Many local neighbors would often frequent, enjoying a good visit session with coffee and a freshly baked treat.

Her personality was one of being very organized and detail-focused to ensure everything was done well on the farm. It was a labor of love for her. As her children were growing up, she ensured they were well-fed, active in sports, and active in local hobbies such as 4H, along with submitting exhibits at the local Eaglesham fair. Glenda installed the ethics of hard work, honesty, gratitude, and being respectful to others. She was very stern in her ways and set a principle-based approach to everything she achieved and worked on.

After the children were raised, Glenda sold Mary Kay cosmetics for 20+ years, earning Director status. She enjoyed learning a new craft and meeting people from all over.

She eventually made a move from Eaglesham and settled in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, which put her in close proximity to her oldest child, Shelly, also located in central Alberta.

Glenda met a local resident of Wetaskiwin by the name of Alfred Rode and the two were a compatible couple for 20+ years until the very end. They enjoyed gardening together and frequenting the Bailey Theatre in Camrose, Alberta, on Sundays to listen to the old-style country music. They took an agricultural trip to Australia and New Zealand, which was a highlight for her, seeing so many new things from different countries.

Glenda never neglected her number one passion, and that was the family farm. She would return on a regular basis to the Eaglesham farm to assist with its transition to her youngest son (Kelvin). She continued to provide her bookkeeping skills during that transition until her health started to deteriorate. She spent the last five years on continuous oxygen that was contributed to by interstitial lung disease from an unknown source.

She is survived by her three children, Shelly Lorraine Wright (Mark), Derry Ronald Wright, and Kelvin Lloyd Wright (Christina), and three grandchildren, Kallie, Karter, and Bradley.

Glenda preferred not to have a formal service but requested the folks of the Peace River area and Wetaskiwin area be provided with her celebration story of life. A family burial of her ashes will be at a later date “when the farming schedule allows for it” (her words).
