Obituary For Glen Milo Somerville

Glen Milo Somerville passed away peacefully in Grande Prairie on December 12, 2025, at the age of 83 years.

Glen was born in Rolling Hills, Alberta, on March 25, 1942. He attended school from Grade 1 through 12 at the Rolling Hills School. After graduation, Glen went to S.A.I.T. and graduated with his survey degree. He worked surveying in Northern Alberta from 1960 until 1969. In 1969 Glen attended the University of Saskatoon, graduating with a certificate in artificial insemination of cattle and horses. He worked for the next few years with his A-I Unit out of Manning, Alberta.

Glen met Linora (Yuhasz) in early 1969, and they married in November 1969. Son Kelly was born in 1970, son Don in 1972, and son Trevor in 1975. In 1989 Glen completed his family with the addition of daughter Marie. Glen, Linora, and family lived in Dixonville, Alberta, most of their lives before retiring to Grande Prairie in 2022.

Glen ran Thoroughbred chuckwagons starting in 1972. His wagon adventure took the family all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba until 2007. During the spring of each year, Glen coached minor baseball in Dixonville, and during the winters, he coached hockey in Manning and Grimshaw. He worked with Alberta High School Rodeo for six years. After he retired from the oilfield, he went to work for LaPrairie Group Contractors, snowplowing in the winter and hauling gravel in the summer. He retired from LaPrairie and continued farming. Glen loved working with the cows and horses he raised on the farm.

Glen is survived by his wife, Linora; sons Kelly (Kendra), Don (Deanna), and Trevor (Michelle); daughter Marie (Colton); and sisters June Lyons of Fairview, Ina Nielson of Camrose, and Vera Elson of Cochrane. He is also survived by his brothers, Allen Somerville of Stettler, Dean Somerville of Calgary, and Dan Somerville of Beaverlodge; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Glen was predeceased by his father, Lester Somerville; his mother, Ellen Somerville; brothers Earl and Ray; sisters Nellie and Amy; and granddaughter Shannon.

A memorial service will be held at the end of March. Date and place will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glen’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en).
