Obituary For Georgette Olivina Langlois
Georgette Langlois, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Tangent, AB, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, surrounded by family, at the age of 90 years.
Georgette was the second of eight children born to Napoleon and Bernadette Granger. She was raised on a farm in Tangent, where she also attended school.
In June of 1957, Georgette married her long-time friend Leo-Paul Langlois, and they settled on a farm in a two-room house with no running water or electricity. They had five children while living in that “shack”. Georgette worked hard to keep her young family fed and clothed. With Paul working in the bush in the winters, she was often a single mom. Their hard work paid off, and they were able to build their dream home with all the modern necessities in 1967. They added a sixth child to the family a few years later.
Georgette was known as a hard worker who helped on the farm in any way she could. She had a talent for gardening and sewing, making her own wedding dress as well as all her daughters’. She was heavily involved in community activities such as the Women of Unifarm and the Catholic Women’s League, to name a couple. She was generous, kind, and gentle.
When Paul and Georgette retired, they moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to their children, and she continued to be involved in volunteer and community activities. A diagnosis of Parkinson's for Paul led to Georgette falling into a caregiver role as well as an avid fundraiser for Parkinson's. A stroke at the age of 82 took Georgette’s independence away, and she moved into the Prairie Lakes facility, where staff cared for her until her passing.
Georgette will be missed by her children: Denise (Jack), Norm (Teri), son-in-law, Rob, Bernie (Agnes), Evelyne (Dave), and Jocelyn (Bobbi); 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind four siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sweetheart, Paul, in 2010, and her daughter, Angele, in 2013. She was also predeceased by her parents and three siblings.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Sts. Martyrs Canadiens Parish (10301 102 Street) in Tangent, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. A light lunch will follow at Tangent Hall.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.ca).
