Obituary For George Yurychuk

George Alexander Yurychuk, longtime resident of the Grande Prairie and Webster area, passed away peacefully in the arms of family on Friday, August 7, 2015, at the age of 90. He succumbed while residing at the family farm, after a long decline from dementia.

George was born May 5th, 1925 on the original homestead in Webster to Nicholas Yurychuk and Tillie (née Youzwyshyn). In 1954 he married Jean Kozlowski and together they had seven children: Patricia, Alan, David (Anne Keville), Marie (Ron Greenwood), Elizabeth (Dan Smith), Susan, and Darrel. With the exception of 3 years in Stoner / Stone Creek British Columbia, he resided most of his married life in Webster.

George was a farmer but also worked as a faller and heavy equipment operator. After separating from his wife he primarily resided in Grande Prairie. He later met Chris Hanson and they spent 17 years together until her death in 2004. He loved to play pool, country dance and garden.

George was predeceased by his parents, brothers Mike and John, sister Anne Johnson, wife Jean, and partner Chris.

He is survived by his sister Mary Gacek, children, grandchildren: Daniel (Tricia Pankiw), Nicole (Todd Savage), Katie (Rafig Mustafayeva), Mathew, Ian, Kaleigh, Jolene, Jordan, Alexis, Tara, Kurtus, and Rebecca; great-grandchildren: Colton, Dakota, Makala and Tristyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from the Yurychuks, Gaceks, Johnsons, Walkers and Kozlowskis.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 7:30pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).

Following the visitation, you are welcome to join in celebrating George's life at the Royal Canadian Legion in Grande Prairie (9912 101 Ave.).

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 12:00pm at the Webster Community Church (twp. rd. 744 and range rd. 55 - 7.5 miles or 12 km north of Sexsmith on hwy #2 and 2 miles or 3.2 km west on the Webster Road).

To be followed by interment of ashes at Webster Cemetery (range rd. 53 and twp. rd. 744 just off of hwy #2 at the Webster road turn off) and a luncheon at the Webster Community Church.
