Obituary For Garry Walter Crittall

Garry Walter Crittall, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Drumheller, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 84 years.

Garry was born on February 15, 1942, in Drumheller. He was raised there, and after obtaining his grade 12 diploma, he completed his journeyman instrumentation technician apprenticeship at NAIT. As a young adult, he worked at the Atlas mine, and while living there in Drumheller, he met his wife, Margaret Kruchten. He went on to work in the mines in both Canmore and Grande Cache. They eventually settled in Grande Prairie, where Garry was employed with Weyerhaeuser until retiring in 2002.

He was an incredibly kind, loving, and generous man with a great sense of humour. Garry loved his family and always put them first. He greatly enjoyed cooking, birdwatching, genealogy, coffee with the guys, and spending time with his family.

Garry will be sadly missed by his children, Lisa (Bob) Schubrink, Gord (Julie) Crittall, and Derek (Cori) Crittall; brother Ron Crittall; grandchildren Mitchell (Samantha) Petersen, Jordan Petersen, Patrick Shannon, Brodie Crittall, Kara (Cory) St Georges, and Katie Crittall; as well as his great-grandchildren, Roy and Alix Petersen, Declan Shannon, and Rhett St Georges.

He was predeceased by his mother, Alice Crittall (née Cook); his father, Walter Crittall; his brother, Bruce Crittall; and his wife, Margaret Crittall (née Kruchten).

The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404-102 St), preceded by a viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Following the mass, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in Tranquille Hall at the church, after which burial will take place at the Grande Prairie Cemetery (84 Ave and 112 St).

For those who cannot attend in person, the funeral mass will be livestreamed. The link will be available shortly before the mass begins.

In honour of Garry, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

While every effort is made to ensure a smooth livestream, technical or broadcast issues may occasionally occur beyond the control of Oliver’s Funeral Home.

I've worked with Garry a lot of and on out at the Mill. Garry was a great Co-worker, Mentor, and friend to me there. He had a great sense of humor, and we all, those that received them, always enjoyed his nostalgic emails from decades past. He will be missed. God Speed Garry. Henry

To Lisa, Gordon, Derek and Familyl It is with great sadness that I have for the loss of my first cousin, telephone buddy, and fellow genealogist. What I will miss the most are those hilarious conversations that we shared, his knowledge of my parents and grandparents in Midlandvale and Drumheller, cooking recipes, little stories about his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. his stunning photography, and love for Margaret and family. Garry was deeply religious and would send prayers my way whenever our family needed them. May the angels lead you into Paradise, Garry. Cathy, David, Robert and Elizabeth Todd

Garry was so kind and thoughtful. We connected through my museum work in drumheller and became coffee pals when I moved back to grande prairie as a young first time mom. I viewed him as a grandparent of my own. I have the gift of gab and talked his ear off and he always remembered tiny details. Garry spoke often about his wife and missing her and how much he loved her. I am glad they are together now. My condolences to the family.
