Evelyn Marie Lawson of Grande Prairie, AB, and longtime resident of the Peace Country, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 86.

Evelyn Marie Lloyd was born in McLennan, AB, on February 9, 1940. Evelyn grew up in McLennan and on September 25, 1957, married John Lawson. In 1967, Evelyn, John, and their children, Beth and Kim, moved to Grande Prairie. Evelyn called the area in and around Grande Prairie home for the remainder of her life.

Evelyn worked as a floral arranger at Campbell’s Flowers for a number of years before beginning her career as a postie. Starting as an inside worker with Canada Post, Evelyn was eventually promoted and became a letter carrier. Early morning shifts and being outside made for the perfect job, as Evelyn always enjoyed the outdoors.

Summers were spent riding horses and camping with family and friends. Evelyn also enjoyed gardening and always had beautiful flower beds, as well as a garden full of delicious, fresh vegetables. The long northern winters were spent socializing over games of canasta, rummy, and cribbage. Skiing and golf were a couple of Evelyn’s favourite outdoor activities. In retirement, she took up woodworking and became interested in building willow furniture.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, John, and her daughter, Beth. She will be sadly missed by her son, Kim Lawson (Cheryl); grandchildren Karyn Lawson (Jason Caple), Amanda Lawson, Garrett Lawson, and Hehley Park (Kevin Makoto Souza); and great-grandchildren Niya Kelpin, Shae Kelpin, Ashlynn Dubedat, Iris Park, and Alder Park.

Evelyn’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in Oliver’s Tea Room.
