Obituary For Evan Douglas Stark

Evan “Doug” Stark, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 91 years.

Doug was born in Bezanson, AB, on July 9, 1930, the youngest of eight, where he lived until he left for the Army in May 1951. He was stationed with the Allied-Occupation in Germany after World War II. In 1954, he returned to the Grande Prairie area, in which he resided until his passing. On June 13, 1956, Doug married the love of his life, Evelyn, and they happily celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in a quiet family gathering this summer. Doug and Eve had four children: Donna, Joan, Trent, and Tracy.

Doug was an entrepreneur, running two service stations, a towing company, and a muffler shop over the years. Then he built the dream of his later years, his pride and joy, the Grovedale Golf Course. He spent many hours there both working and playing. After selling the golf course and retiring, he found more time for his golfing, playing cards, his favorite sports teams, the Blue Jays and the Calgary Flames, politics, his 5 tomato plants and listening to classic country music.

Doug loved his family deeply and will be sadly missed by his wife Evelyn; daughters: Donna (Richard) Tate, Joan Stark, and Tracy (Robert) Haugseth; daughter in-law Jackie Wald-Stark; grandchildren: Lindsay Tate (Mark Thibeault), Brandon Tate, Andrew Haugseth, Devon Haugseth, and Katelyn Stark (Chris Becak); as well as great-granddaughter Jamie Haugseth.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, all his brothers and sisters, and various family members, as well as his dear son Trent.

A Invite only service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 11:00am.

A link will be available 15 minutes prior to the service on Doug’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home Website.

Dear Evelyn and family, Our deepest sympathies for the loss of Doug. Our memories go way back to when Dad, Percy McBratney and Doug had the Hillcrest Service Station. Those were wonderful years. Mom and Dad both loved hearing and seeing you both always. Doug was especially great to me when I moved back to Grande Prairie. Whenever my car needed fixing Doug was always there to help, something I'll never forget. We think of Doug with the greatest respect. Love Colleen McBratney, Esplen
