Obituary For Erwin Clifford Heikel

Erwin Clifford Heikel, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the age of 68 years. He was born October 31, 1953, in Beaverlodge, AB., to parents Jack and Eva Heikel, and was raised on a farm in Elmworth, AB. Erwin completed Grade 12 at Beaverlodge Highschool, then went on to work in Fort McMurray, AB at ATB for a short time. He began to miss home so he moved back to Grande Prairie, where he worked for Canfor, then quit for a short time to work at Weyerhaeuser, and then back to Canfor until his retirement.

Erwin enjoyed gardening so much, that he once put a 7-foot tree in a 4-foot Kia. He also was interested in garage sales, movies, reading, puzzles, and teasing his nieces and nephews.

He will be sadly missed by his siblings: Kathy (Randy) Stark, Wendy Grendys, Randy (Simonne) Heikel, and Linda Heikel. His nieces and nephews: Tristan; Hope (Ryan) and their children: Skylie, Paisley, and Zaiden; Shauna; Jaclyn (Robbie) and their children: Damian and Dominic; Miranda (Brian) and their children: Lochlan and Scotlyn; Kelli (Andy) and their children: Adyn and Kamdyn; Corey (Kelsey) and their child Mason; Richard and his son Tanner; as well as his best friend Doug Sawchuk.

Erwin was predeceased by his mother Eva Heikel in 1999, and his father Jack Heikel in 2012.

We would also like to thank Joey’s Only and Boston Pizza (North) for always keeping Erwin’s belly full.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 10:00 am at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.), with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Elmworth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kid Sport Alberta (kidsportcanada.ca/alberta).

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Erwin for a couple years and he's was always so helpful with me. Always telling me what he had done with the forklifts, so I didn't have to worry for my shift. He always made me laugh too.
