Obituary For Enid Case (née Clarke)

Enid Case, née Clarke (July 8, 1940 – October 31, 2025)

and

John Bernard Case (March 12, 1935 - November 4, 2025)

The family of John and Enid would like to share the news of their peaceful passing at home, just days apart, surrounded by family.

Born in Lancashire and Sheffield, they met as a newly qualified Specialist General surgeon and a Registered nurse and married in 1963. In January 1970, they immigrated to a shockingly cold and remote Grande Prairie, AB (population about 12 000), with their 3 young children. As the first surgeon in northwestern Alberta, Dr. Case attended everything from orthopaedics to neurosurgery to obstetrics and beyond. Enid managed the business of the medical practice and the family home.

They retired to Qualicum Beach in 2004, where Enid renovated, gardened and walked, among many other activities. John enjoyed classical music and poetry and wrote his memoirs in a 3-book series.

They are survived by their children David (Annette), Douglas (Michelle), and Catherine (Gary), and grandchildren Kirsti (Chris), Tyler (Laura), Michaela, Mackenzie, Nikita (Tanner), Brianna (Justin) and Alexander.

At the request of Enid and John, there will be no memorial service.

Condolences

  • November 07, 2025

I had the privilege to work with John for 23 years in Grande Prairie. He was one of the physicians who helped turn the QE2 from a community hospital to a regional hospital. He was a gentleman ( a rarity among surgeons) , highly skilled in all surgical disciplines, and caring. He was happiest when working after hours and telling his stories to the staff. He put his vast experiences and storytelling skills on paper after his retirement. John and Enid were an admired team. I am so glad that they finally escaped the North to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Qualicum Beach and a twenty year plus retirement. To the grandchildren- you come from great stock. Strength to family in the days ahead. Bob Staples
