Obituary For Emily "Jean" Impey

Emily “Jean” Impey, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the age of 93 years.

Jean was born on July 28, 1932, in High River, AB, to Nelson and Emily Fraser. After completing her schooling, she graduated from the School of Nursing at the Calgary General Hospital in 1954. Jean worked as a dedicated nurse, caring for others with compassion, until she devoted her time to raising her family. Jean continued to share her knowledge and passion for healthcare. She was heavily involved with the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Alberta Mental Health Association and was a board member of Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Jean was also devoted to the UCW at the St. Paul’s United Church for many years. Her commitment to service was recognized when she was named Volunteer of the Year in 1983 by the City of Grande Prairie.

Jean shared a long and happy life with her husband, Hugh Impey, with whom she partnered in the work of Rotary. As part of the “Rotary Anns,” she was deeply involved in supporting the Rotary’s service projects and built many lasting friendships through that community.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and traveling. She always had a special place in her heart for cats.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children: Shaune (Donna) Impey, Dale (Sandra) Impey, Christine Impey, and Susanne Allan. She was a proud grandmother to Moira, Robert, Rebecca, and Sarah, and cherished her numerous step-grandchildren.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Hugh (2020); her sister, Goldie Robinson (2019); and her parents, Nelson and Emily Fraser.

A funeral service for Jean will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church (10206 100 Ave.) in Grande Prairie. Livestreaming will be available prior to the funeral service. A link will be provided closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (https://alberta.cmha.ca/), Rotary International Foundation (www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation), or a charity of your choice.

Jean will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and her lifelong commitment to family and community.
