Obituary For Elmer Noel Woyciehouski

It is with deep sadness that we announce Elmer Woyciehouski, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 83 years.

Elmer was born on December 20, 1938, to Stanley and Clara Woyciehouski in Provost, AB, the youngest of seven siblings. In 1961, he married the love of his life Edna. They went on to have three children: Louise, Warren, and Pamela. In 1973, Elmer and Edna moved to Grande Prairie to raise their young family.

He had a long and successful career as a Steam Engineer and retired at age 61. After retiring, Elmer spent his time travelling across Canada with Edna, going camping, golfing, spending time with his children and grandchildren, building countless amounts of beautiful furniture, and woodworking in his shop.

He was the most giving and helpful man, if you ever complimented a piece of furniture he built, you could expect to be given that piece of furniture next time you saw him. Nothing made Elmer happier than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, you could not wipe the smile off his face when he was around them.

He is survived by and will forever be cherished and remembered by his children: Louise, Warren (Lorna), and Pamela (Kevin); grandchildren: Greg (Erika), Dane (Colleen), Krista (Dan), Keifer, Kylie, Ashley, Santana, Nicole (Steven), and Ronan; as well as great-grandchildren: Dustin, Donald, Taniesha, Kade, Emily, Rye-Lynn, Sawyer, Elias, Maverick, and Lennon. Elmer will be forever loved and forever remembered. Elmer was predeceased by his loving wife Edna; his parents; as well as four brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Elmer’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 2:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). If you wish to honor his memory, please consider a Memorial Donation in Elmer’s name to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (710 10123 99 St. NW, Edmonton, AB, T5J 3H1) https://www.albertacancer.ca/donate/.

Condolences

  • June 24, 2022

It is inevitable that at our age, we are more frequently writing condolence messages. This is one of the most difficult to date - not due to a lack of information, but because there is so much about a man who demonstrated so many extraordinary qualities: a true and trusted friend; a helpful and generous neighbour; a skilled employee and team member who easily shared his vast knowledge with his co-workers and others. A gardener and baker who always shared his bounty, and a carpenter who built the most comfortable rocking chairs in existence! Thank you Elmer for touching our lives and providing us with memories that will forever remain in our hearts. We are very grateful for the time and experiences we had with you. We will miss you but we are thankful that your heritage will continue on through our shared grandchildren, Ashley and Ronan. Ken and Geneva Hoveland

We will always remember Elmer as a super neighbour, always there if you needed a helping hand, we had several get togethers in our backyard, by the fire pit, playing games and horseshoes. RIP Elmer.

I am so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed working with Elmer, and his kindness regardless of the work environment made a lasting memorable impression. Can our dead loved ones live again? The Bile answers "there is going to be a resurrection( re-creation)". Rest until that happy day, Elmer. Ron Klimach

I worked with Elmer for several years, he made me feel welcome on the team and was a mentor to me. He was my senior by 30 years but could still race up and down the stairs faster than me! I still have the nightstands he built for my wedding shower. He was so sneaky getting my "advice" on various finishes - not knowing I was participating in a project for me! Many blessings to the family, it was a privilege to know Elmer.

We are so sorry to know that Elmer has passed away. He was a great neighbor. Like others in the neighborhood, we have little pieces of his amazing wood working abilities. He was always willing to lend a hand whenever he could - especially with his snowblower. Both Elmer and Edna were wonderful, and they are missed. Our deepest condolences, Jeff and Cindy Hinz
