Obituary For Eldon Charles "Bud" George
Bud George, resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the age of 94 years.
Bud was born on September 24, 1931, in Hamilton, Ontario, to parents Harry and Lillace George. He had one brother, Ross.
Bud lived in Hamilton until 1936, when the family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, after his father took on a job as a CPR policeman. In 1943, Bud and his family moved to Brandon, Manitoba. It was in Brandon that he found a love for baseball. Bud and his brother were both pitchers and formed a baseball team known as the Brandon Clover Leafs. After high school, Bud went to work for the Manitoba Power Commission. In 1950, he worked for the CPR as a station agent in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. There, he learned how to manage freight and send Morse code using the telegraph key.
While travelling from one CPR station to another, it was in Souris, Manitoba, that he met Donna. Bud and Donna were married on September 5, 1955, and were together for eight days shy of 66 years. They had three sons, Craig, Blake, and Darcy. In that same year (1955), Bud went to work for Traders Finance in Brandon, Manitoba. In 1964, he was transferred to Kenora, Ontario, to be the assistant manager. Here, he found a passion for fishing. In 1968, Bud transferred again, this time to Grande Prairie, still with Traders Finance. After 22 years in the finance business, Bud went to work for Les Longmate at Windsor Motors for almost 22 years before retiring.
During his retirement, he continued to fish and was an avid golfer. Throughout his life, both he and Donna were devoted dog people. He was known for carrying around a few dog bones for any four-legged friends he might encounter. Bud was also a member of the Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs.
Bud will be sadly missed by his three boys, Craig (Donna), Blake (Angie), and Darcy (Kerianne); his seven grandchildren, Jason (Amy), Garrett (Samantha), Taylor (Trent), Ashley (Elliott), Jaycee, Addison, and Ethan; and his great-grandchildren, Axel, Porter, Dean, Jackson, and Charlie.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ross.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005-107 Ave). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for refreshments in Oliver’s Tea Room.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (bandagedpaws.org/donate).
