Obituary For Edith Otealia Erickson Macauley

Edith Macauley, a long-time resident of the Wembley area, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Points West Living, at the age of 93 years.

She will be sadly missed by her children: David Macauley, Donna Bailie, Barb (Bob) Viravec, Kathy (Gord) Hepner, Erna (Don) Moon, Karen (David) Badger, and Brenda Macauley (John Doole); grandchildren: Janice Macauley, Derek (Miranda) Macauley, Clinton (Adrienne) Bailie, Erin (Amir) Ocampo, Jason (Brianne) McEwen, Sandi McEwen, Robyn (Darren) Wells, Luke (Danielle) Viravec, Caitlin (Garett) Dika, Ashleen Moon (Drew Wilson), Liam Moon (Jamie Cunningham), Saylor Badger, Sandra Grimsrud (Noel Miller), and Sara Grimsrud; and great-grandchildren: Michael Jobson; Elsa, Clara and June Bailie; Declan and Shea Ocampo; Hunter, Presley and Hinton Wells; Sophie Viravec; Max and Madeleine McEwen; Sullivan and Elliott Dika; Harriet Wilson; and Oaken Miller.

Edith was predeceased by her husband Ernest, son Kevin Macauley, and grandson Tyler Viravec.

Edith was born to Karl and Martha Erickson in Rocky Rapids, AB, on March 7, 1923. As a young woman she came to the Peace Country and worked at various jobs, one of which was a farm worker. That is where she met her husband Ernest, as he was the hired man on the next farm. Together, after the Second World War, they purchased their farm near Wembley where they raised their eight children. Edith continued to reside there until 1998 at which time she took up residence at MacKenzie Place and then transferred to Points West Living until the time of her death.

She was a strong, robust farm woman with an open heart and home to all strays – two-legged and four-legged. Edith was loved by all! Family and friends always left her home with a full tummy and a happy heart. One of her favorite pastimes was feeding the birds and she will always come to mind at the sight of a “wee chickadee”.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave). Interment will be a private, family gathering at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (8618-91 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8X 1V6).

My sincere condolences over the passing of your mother. She was a kind, lovely, and hardworking lady. However, I know the role she cherished and was most important for her was being your mother. I am so sorry for your loss. Charlene

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother, Edith. My mother, Emily Severson, was a Young from the Easyford area and knew your mother from those days. Now the main reason I have responded on here is that I am in possession of a photograph of your mother and her family taken on the farm at Rocky Rapids back before the war by my mother's brother David Young. That is a story unto itself. If anyone of your family is into family histories they might like to have this picture. The only person I know in the photograph is your mother. I can guess at some of the others but have no knowledge of the rest. Perhaps some of your mother's younger siblings are still with you and can fill in the blanks. If you are interested in this photo, feel free to give me a call at any time. Again, my condolences on the loss of your mom.
