Obituary For Dorothy Wiens

Dorothy Wiens, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Herbert, SK, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, peacefully at her home in Grande Prairie at the age of 82 years.

Dorothy was born on August 22, 1942, in Herbert, SK, and was raised on a farm in Gouldtown, SK. She was the oldest of four sisters and five brothers. On February 12, 1961, she married the love of her life, Victor Wiens, and had a daughter, Gwendolyn, who sadly passed away on February 11, 1962. On August 10, 1963, Dorthy and Victor welcomed son Desmond, followed by Darcy on August 7, 1964. Soon after they moved their little family to Richmond, BC, then a few years later they relocated back to Herbert to run the family restaurant, The Lone Eagle Esso, where everything was homemade. In the early 2000’s Dorothy and Victor ventured onward to Grande Prairie, where their youngest son Darcy and his wife Tracy lived with their children: Sonya, Matthew and Joshua. While living in Grande Prairie, Dorothy and Vic worked with Kelson Group for many years until Victor passed away on April 11, 2011. Dorothy continued to live in Grande Prairie; remaining close to her family and continuing her work with Kelson Group, whom she loved working for and who treated her like she was gold. She loved not only her whole family but anyone that came into her life. She was a very special lady that loved people, life and her Lord and savior.

Dorothy had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She also enjoyed watching The Young and The Restless, Tribal Trails, and crocheting before her shoulder wouldn’t work very well anymore.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by her two sons, Darcy Wiens (Tracy) and Desmond Wiens (Karen); grandchildren: Sonya Wiens (Allister Brennan-MacNeil), Matthew Wiens (Nadine Frew), Joshua Wiens (Stephanie), Riley Wiens and Brittany Wiens; great-grandchildren: Malachi Everheart Wiens, and Ivy Evergreen Wiens; as well as Paul Douglas, who she adopted by heart as her son, and who cared for her when she was ill.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Nettie Friesen; her beloved husband Victor Wiens; daughter Gwen Wiens; four brothers: Ralph Friesen, Rufus Friesen, Carl Friesen, Perry Friesen; and two infant sisters, both named Diane.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 107 Ave).
