Obituary For Dorothy Jean Chambers

Dorothy Jean Chambers (née McFadzen), lovingly known as Auntie Dot and Gramma Dot, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, at the age of 86.

She was born on August 9, 1939, in Windsor Creeks, AB, near Goodfare, AB. The second of six children, she was welcomed by her parents, Jean and Victor McFadzen. Her grandmother, May McFadzen, was the midwife who delivered her.

Dorothy attended elementary school in Goodfare, going to school in a horse-drawn wagon. She moved to Beaverlodge with her grandmother, May, to attend high school. It was at that time that she met Dale Chambers, and they were married on August 1, 1958. Together they raised a family of 4 and settled in Wembley.

Dorothy was a devoted mother and spent many hours volunteering. She coached baseball, was a Brownie leader, canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society, and loved catering for the Wembley Hall. She was a professional majorette and has passed her skills down all the way to her great-grandchildren. She also loved curling – participating on mixed teams & watching it on TV.

She delighted in talking to people and would spend hours visiting with folks wherever she went. She had a passion for working in her yard. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandkids. She and Dale would spend hours playing cards, crib & teaching them to catch & hit T-balls.

Dorothy will be very missed by her children, Jerry (Brenda) Chambers, Sandra (Murray) Head, and Barb (Darren) Dunbar; her grandkids, Terrance, Tasha, Sondra, Jennifer, Spencer, Donavan, Dalton, and Dalaney; as well as many great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Dale Chambers, in 2019, her son Kenny in 2018, and by her grandson Shane Head in 2017.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society AB/NWT Division (www.cancer.ca) or to Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (https://gphospitalfoundation.ca).

Your mom had such a welcoming demeanour and a beautiful smile. I knew her as a little girl when I used to skip down the street in Wembley to play with Barbie. Many many years had passed, and I saw this lovely lady in the Lodge while I was visiting a relative. It was Dorothy. We struck up a conversation and she showed me the same warmth and kindness that she had when I was a little girl. I'm sorry that you've had to say goodbye to your mom. I pray that you all would feel an incredible sense of peace and comfort during this time. God bless you all. Rochelle Van Buskirk (Budesheim)
