Obituary For Dorothy Doreen Massee

Dorothy Doreen Massee (née Kirscht), a long-term resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at the age of 78, after a courageous but short battle with lung cancer.

Dorothy was born in June 1947 at the Beaverlodge Hospital and raised in the Wembley area until she took a job as a live-in nanny in Grande Prairie. She then met Lloyd and they married in 1967. Staying home to raise their two children, she was always available to help with her nephews and nieces, and never at a loss for homemade goodies for everyone. She got her bus driver’s license and became a spare bus driver in Wembley until they moved to Grande Prairie in 1988. She continued as a spare driver for the Peace Wapiti School Division for a few more years.

She was well known for her kindness, always had time to chat, and the coffee was always on. It was commonly referred to as not “talking” to Dorothy but “listening” to Dorothy. She always had a way of making you look at things in more than one way (sometimes just by a look). After Lloyd passed in 2010, she sold the house about five years later and moved to the top floor of Prairie Sunrise Towers, where she kept good track of the parking lot and any other activities she witnessed.

Dorothy will be dearly missed by her daughter, Linda (Dennis) Dyrda; son Alec (Patric) Antosh-Massee; and two granddaughters, Chelsea (Evan) and Nevada (Dustin). She will also be missed by her brother Richard (Marleen); sister-in-law Jean; sister Ruth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Agnes Kirscht; her husband Lloyd; brothers Alex and Eric; and nephew Malcolm.

In honor of Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no service. The family will be holding a private gathering at a later date.
