Obituary For Doreen Marie Delorme
Doreen Marie Delorme, resident of Victor Lake, AB, passed away on November 28, 2025, at the Grande Cache Health Complex, at the age of 62 years.
Doreen was a traditional woman who was born on April 9, 1963, in a white-wall tent by the side of the Muskeg River. She was the eldest of ten children, born to a Cree man, Charles Delorme, and to an Anishinaabe woman, Margaret Delorme (née Chipaway). Doreen was of Cree, Saulteaux, and Métis ancestry. She was raised in Grande Cache, Victor Lake, and all across Treaty 8 territory.
Doreen’s strong sense of identity and belief in Indigenous sovereignty led to her activism, community work, and pursuit of education. She deeply valued working in the community. She used her education in social work and traditional knowledge to support families as well as communities. She brought kindness, gentle strength, and humour into her work as an early educator, in addiction support, and as an FASD worker. Doreen was a respected Elder. Throughout her career, she worked with Friendship Centres, Poundmaker’s Lodge, the Nechi Institute, Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, and Mamowichihtowin. She often worked with the Alberta Ministry of Education, offering traditional teachings. Doreen also served in numerous communities, such as the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Alexander First Nation, Enoch Cree Nation, Paul First Nation, and others.
She loved beadwork, baskets, ribbon skirts, and supporting Indigenous artists. She was often found picking berries and medicines, attending ceremonies and cultural events, and facilitating cultural workshops.
Doreen’s favourite way of spending time was being around family. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Richard Flamand Sr.; her two children, Deidra Delorme and Richard Flamand Jr.; her siblings, Donna Delorme (Tasha and Chantal), Eliza Delorme (Raven and Dylan), George Delorme (Riley), Rose Delorme-Sayah (Santina, D.J., Marcus, and Adel), Tanya Delorme, and Connie Delorme (Jakobi); her grandchildren, Kareem Beaverbone and Isaiah Delorme; and many adopted grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her two sons, Dallas Flamand and Jason Delorme, and her three brothers, Reuben Delorme, Bruce Delorme, and Gary Delorme.
Doreen’s wake will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Eagle’s Nest Hall (10028 – 99 St., Grande Cache, AB, T0E 0Y0). You’re welcome to stay as long as you need. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., please join us at the Eagle’s Nest for the ceremonial process, opening pipe ceremony, burial, closing pipe ceremony, and then feast.

Doreen will always be a great teacher to me. Her spirit and knowledge stirred the heart. One of the beautiful moments I was fortunate to share was while we drove to a conference. She shared her thoughts and experiences with growing. Resilience wasn't just a word it was action and she was the true champion. Much thanks and love.
