Obituary For Doreen Helen Brown
Doreen Brown, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 87.
Doreen was born on July 17, 1938. Born fifth in a family of eleven children, she was raised on a farm in Fairview, AB. After moving from Fairview, she pursued a career in nursing. She worked in many places throughout Ontario and Alberta, finally settling in Vermilion, AB. It was there that she married and started a family. In 1980, she moved to Grande Prairie with her daughters. Wanting a change, she purchased Little Green Thumb Florist and successfully ran the shop for many years before returning to her nursing career and eventually retiring.
After retirement, she filled her time with walking, knitting, having lunch or coffee dates with friends and family, and spending time with her six grandchildren. She adored them all and encouraged their many pursuits by attending all their soccer, hockey, and swimming practices and tournaments.
Doreen was always known for being independent, hardworking, and strong-willed. She will be fondly remembered by her two daughters, Selene (Kelly) Chalmers and Patricia (Dan) Olson; her grandchildren Leah (Curtis) Olson, Courtney (Scott) Chalmers, Kali (Marcel) Fortin, Paige Chalmers, Ty (Megan) Chalmers, and Georgia (Carter) Chalmers; her great-grandchildren Milo Fortin, Wyatt Ames, and Natalie Chalmers; as well as numerous extended family members.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Pope for his exceptional care of Mom over the last 45 years, the staff on Nursing Unit 23 at GPRH, Homecare and Palliative Care. A special thank you to all the staff at Wild Rose Manor for helping us with Mom’s care and showing her such compassion.
At Doreen’s request, there will be no memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue (bandagedpaws.org/donate).

Selene, Trish, and family ... sending my love, hugs, and prayers during this difficult time as we get used to life without Doreen. It's hard to define what a truly amazing and inspirational woman Doreen was - and will always be. She was and will always remain a huge blessing in my life. Such a strong, loving, positive, and independent woman that I looked up to my whole life. Always loved being around your energy and enjoying fun and laughter. She was always quick to share kind and encouraging words and make you feel like you mattered. I'm so very proud of her, who she is and will always be, and I am so very very grateful to have her as an amazing Auntie, mentor, and friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Doreen. I will love you always and miss you forever and look forward to seeing you on the other side! xoxoxo
