Obituary For Donna May Galon

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Donna May Galon (Schleppe) announces her death on Thursday, June 26th, 2025, from medical complications due to COPD at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Born in Swalwell Alberta on March 4, 1947, Donna was the youngest of a large family of 6 brothers and 8 sisters. Her father, Michele (Mike) Schleppe, and mother Magdalena passed away when Donna was four. Mike later married Rose and the two families were combined. By then most of the family was out of the house and working or in the military, except for one younger brother on Rose’s side. Donna often spoke of how her parents were older but they loved her and she could not ask for a better upbringing. Mike and Rose raised the family on a family farm east of Calgary, Alberta.

Donna is survived by one sister, Shirley Postlewaite (Schleppe) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and her only son Rob Galon, of Grande Prairie Alberta.

As a young woman, Donna had a strong desire to work in marketing and administration. Determined to make her dream a reality, she worked various summer and part time jobs in Calgary, Red Deer and Jasper, saving enough money to put herself through school. She credits living with her sisters at that time for providing her with a roof over her head while attending school. During that time she met Robert (Bob) William Prescott Galon at a Kenny Rogers concert in Sylvan Lake Alberta. Soon after Bob and Donna started spending time with one another eventually falling in love and marrying on Sept 3, 1965. Donna later graduated with a diploma in Administration. Bob and Donna later divorced and Donna and Rob moved from the country back to Edmonton.

After the divorce, Donna worked incredibly hard to ensure she provided a home and many memories for her and her son. As a professional administrator, Donna worked for several companies during her career before retiring in 2011.

When she was not working, Donna spent her free time gardening, recreating outside, and caring for animals. Donna had a special bond with dogs. There were three that were very important in her life Buffy, Saddie, and Jasper. She also deeply valued spending time with her brothers and sisters and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews whenever she could find the time.

Mom, you will be missed and forever in our hearts.

At her request, Donna did not want a memorial service, she did not want to burden her family and friends.

A longtime supporter of the SPCA, donations can be made to the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at https://www.albertaspca.org/ways-to-help/tribute-giving/

My sincere condolences to Donna's family. It has been many years since our paths crossed, but fondly remember working with her at Price Waterhouse in Edmonton when I was a young professional and I greatly valued her mentorship. Was just thinking about her the other 🌻
