Don Moylan lost his battle to cancer on Saturday, October 21, 2023. As he said, it was a rough few weeks, but a great 78 years. Tell a good joke to your buddies, give a bone crushing hug to those you love, and help a neighbor as these were things he did so well. Don, or Donny, will be travelling his last highway (in a Peterbilt) but has likely stopped in a big open field to lean against a haybale and feel the sun on his face.

Don was a quiet, gentle, straight-talking man with a great sense of humor. He had a passion, some say obsession, for antique tractors (preferably red), trucks, horses, and classic cars, but might be tempted to also purchase anything antique or cowboy themed. He would happily spend hours in his shop tinkering, fixing, and shining everything until it was pristine. He also owned way too many cowboy boots and hats. Don and Sylvia spent their life together dancing the jitterbug and singing to old country songs. Their home base started in the Webster community but for many years they travelled through small town America heading to their Yuma home, learning the history, playing cards, and meeting the locals.

Don originally came to the Grande Prairie, AB, area as a young man where he settled with his wife Bev (nee Childers) and they raised their family in Clairmont, AB. When he met Sylvia (nee Sallis) later in their lives he joined her family, and she, his. Don will be lovingly missed by his wife Sylvia; kids and grandkids: Gavin (Alden) Moylan, Joshua, Lucas, Zachary, Evelyn, and Sybil; Keltie (Brent) Haugli, Camden, Colby, and Marley; Lynnette (Scott) Peebles, Morgan, Kali, Terrick; Hayley Sallis, Kennidy (Nathan), Zoey, and Neko; Elton (Kathy) Sallis, Thalia, and Ezrah.

Don’s work ethic and love of horses started with his upbringing in North Bend, SK, on the farm with his siblings: Patricia (Don) Jenkins, Bill (Lorna) Moylan, Kenneth (Del) Moylan, Clinton (Mary Black) Moylan, Jean (Bob) Ottenbreit, Marilyn (Peter) Morris, and Mick Sarmaga. It was a simple upbringing, but they enjoyed teasing each other and fondly remember a supportive community. His parents Bud and Vera; brother Clinton and sister in-law Lorna Moylan; as well as brothers in-law Donny Labrecque, and Donald Jenkins pre-deceased him. He had a large family with many nieces, nephews, and extended family; as well as many friends who were like family members to him.

Don had a few careers and was a millwright by trade, but he was a truck driver at heart. He bought his first big truck when he was a young man and could be found driving truck still last year. He also had great memories and laughs with his coworkers during his years in the auction and heavy equipment business. He could tell you where to find all the hidden gems on the road and always had a good story to tell about it.

His family is honoring Don’s very clear wishes by not holding a funeral or memorial service. We will be joined in remembering him by the many friends he made over his travels and years in the community. You made his life richer, fuller, and brought him many laughs, so we thank you for that. We also want to extend our gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for him in his last few weeks.
