Obituary For Dillon Alexander MacGillivary
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Dillon Alexander MacGillivary on January 17, 2026, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, at the young age of 25. Dillon was the beloved son of George MacGillivary (Michelle) and Brenda Dunphy (John).
Dillon was born on February 3, 2000, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. At the age of seven, he moved with his parents and siblings to Rainbow Lake, Alberta, where he was raised. It was there that he grew up and met his childhood sweetheart, Jade Barber.
Dillon was known by many names to those who loved him: Dilly Bar, Dill Pickle (Pickle), Broken Wing, and Noodle **** (ask his friends). No matter what name you called him, anyone who truly knew Dillon loved him. He had a way of lighting up a room with his goofy charm, often walking in wearing his favorite shorts and a hoodie, instantly bringing smiles to those around him.
After graduation, he moved to Grande Prairie, where he began his scaffolding career with Local Union 1325 and formed many close and lasting friendships.
His love for sports was born in North Sydney, where he first took the field in the Tim Hortons Timbits little league program. From a young age, he poured his heart into every sport he played, embracing each opportunity with enthusiasm and determination, always striving to give his very best and beat his “little” big brothers. That same passion followed him to Rainbow Lake, where he played basketball, and then to Grande Prairie, where in 2021 he joined his first softball team. He took to the game immediately, and it was clear to all who watched that he was not only naturally talented but deeply devoted to the sport and the sense of teamwork it brought.
Dillon is lovingly remembered by his parents, George MacGillivary (Michelle) and Brenda Dunphy (John); childhood sweetheart Jade Barber; siblings Valerie, Stephen, Tyler, and Brandon (Laura); grandmother Violet Jamael; the Barber family; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He is reunited in spirit with his grandparents, George and Catherine MacGillivary, Danny Dunphy, and Mike Jamael, as well as his great-grandmother, Alice Dunphy, and his aunt, Linda Dunphy.
Though our hearts are broken, and his time with us brief, we are grateful for every moment we were blessed to spend with him. He will forever live on in our hearts and in the lives of family who adored him, friends who cherished him, and a community that will deeply miss his smile, laughter, and big heart. We love you forever.
A memorial service for Dillon will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a luncheon at the Grovedale Community Hall, Township Road 700, Grovedale, AB.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Stags Slo-Pitch team in support of a future memorial tournament held in Dillon’s honour (e-transfers can be sent to stephenmhill9@gmail.com).

Dillon was one in a million, I was blessed to meet him in 2021 when he Joined Balls Deep, he then went on to play with Trash Pandas, The Thundercocks and then The Staggs. He was always such a core part of the heart on every team he played for, always laughing and having a great time. We became good friends and even as I folded Balls Deep he remained a fixture in every summer plan every rodeo and country music show. He left an impression in every space he entered. He will be sorely missed and the echo of his beautiful life will live on through the people and places he connected with. Condolences to his family, friends, and the loves of his life Jade and Memphis. I hope you're still sending them home from center field buddy we love you. Kate
