We offer families the opportunity to prepare and submit obituary notices written in their own words. We believe this allows each tribute to authentically reflect the life and legacy of the individual. To honour each tribute, obituaries are published as approved by the family.

Obituary For Dennis Johnston Fair

Dennis Fair, a resident of the Hythe, Alberta area, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the age of 74 years.

Dennis was born on October 8, 1952, in Hythe. He grew up on the family farm near Gimle, Alberta, where he continued to farm throughout his life.

Dad loved farming grain and, most days, enjoyed working with cattle. He also liked cat-skinning, welding, machining, and working in the oilfield. In his spare time, he attended auction sales and visited with the neighbours. Most evenings, you could find Dad country touring, checking out what was new in the world. If he wasn’t out country touring, he was likely socializing somewhere, usually at the Beaverlodge Tavern. He always appreciated a good joke and never lacked a story to share.

Most of all, Dad was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He admired how hard they worked and the good people they had become.

Dad often said he was the luckiest man in the world to have grown up and lived in the Hythe community. It was a place he was proud to call home, surrounded by wonderful people, friends, and family.

Dennis will be sadly missed by his children, Naomi (Fred) Trieber and Clinton (Chrissy) Fair; his grandchildren, Ryle Fair, Scyler Trieber, Cole Trieber, Cody Trieber, and Chelsey Trieber; his sister, Judy Holland; his brother-in-law, Larry Hommy; and Patricia Fair.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Arlen and Kevin Southwick, Andy and Darren Hommy, Dustin Holland, and his favourite niece, Monica Elliott, along with many other family members and friends.

Dennis was predeceased by his father, Johnston Fair; his mother, Doreen Fair; his sisters, Kay Southwick and Gwen Hommy; his nephew, Darell Hommy; and members of the old-boy gang, Bill Greber, Darcy Robertson, Ross Sudnik, Eugene Sudnik, and Bud Braden.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hythe Legion (Branch #93, 9818-100 Ave), followed by a luncheon featuring Mabel’s cooking. Afterward, family and friends are invited to raise a celebratory beer in Dennis’ honour at the Beaverlodge Tavern.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Crowe and his wonderful nurse, Danielle Olson, as well as all the superstar nurses on Unit 22 and in the ICU at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. Your kindness, compassion, and care meant so much to Dennis and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ICU at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (www.gphospitalfoundation.ca/donate/, select Primary Care and include “ICU” in the memo, or cheques can be mailed to 11205-110 St, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B1).

Dennis will be remembered for his love of farming, pride in family, friendships throughout the community, and a wonderful sense of humour. He leaves behind many memories, countless stories, and a community that was lucky to have him.
