Obituary For David Joseph Doar

David Joseph Doar, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of New Zealand, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the age of 75 years.

David was born on August 27, 1947, in Whangarei, New Zealand. He immigrated to Canada in 1975, calling Grande Prairie his home. He spent the majority of his career as a Communications Technician, making many lifelong friends along the way. He spent countless hours supporting his many interests, including the Army, Navy Airforce Veteran’s Club, Royal Canadian Legion Dart Club, and of course Tim Hortons.

Those who knew him best will have fond memories of his skill at telling a good (or really bad) joke, talent at playing the guitar and singing, as well as his love of a great conversation.

David had a passion for hunting, which he shared with some of his most treasured friends. As an avid Oilers fan, he did his best to attend every season opener. He enjoyed the many travels he and Dianne made with family and friends, especially those made on their beloved motorcycles. Memories of his kindness, generosity, love, laughter, and contagious smile, we will cherish forever.

David leaves to mourn: his loving wife of 27 years Dianne Fitzpatrick; children: Gavin, Mark (Elaine), Deryk (Shannon), and Michelle (Stewart); grandchildren: Tiara (Justin), Braden, Colby, Nyrie, Deighton, and Autumn; as well as great-grandchildren Sophia and Lawson. Also mourning his loss are his siblings: Ray (Ngaire), Stan (Lin), Ngaire (Glen), Trevor (Lynn), and Kevin (Annemarie); as well as his many nieces and nephews, whom he cared for so very much.

David was predeceased by his father Wilfred; mother Doreen; as well as grandson Colby Mark Alexander.

David’s family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care provided by the Grande Prairie Cancer Clinic, the staff of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital ICU, Dr. Pope, and Donna Kessler.

As per David’s wishes, no formal service will be held.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (11205 110 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B1).

Dave was a close friend and co-worker though out our years at AGT and TELUS. Always one with a ribald joke or Two. Back in the 80's, there was this Bio-Rhythm Coin operated Machine in the Grimshaw Motel we stayed in. You would put in you birthdate and the date that you would like to know in regards to your bio-rhythms for that day. No matter what date Dave put into the machine, His Bio-rhythm's were always at the top. It basically said he never had a bad day.
