Obituary For David and Michelle Lagacé

David “Dave” Alec Lagacé (54 years) and Michelle Suzanne Lagacé (44 years), residents of Bezanson, AB, passed away together on December 27, 2025, in the County of Grande Prairie, AB.

Dave was born on October 21, 1971, in Grande Prairie. He completed grades 1-12 in Sexsmith, AB, and went on to eventually obtain his Red Seal in electrical. Michelle was born on August 3, 1981, also in Grande Prairie. She was educated in early childhood development, working as a licensing officer for Children’s Services.

They had personalities that complemented each other. Dave was very laid-back, kind, and sincerely loved Michelle, his wife of 18 years. Michelle was outgoing and had an exuberant personality.

Dave and Michelle both loved to go riverboating. Michelle enjoyed singing, entertaining, and gardening. Dave liked playing darts and cribbage, as well as going fishing.

They will be sadly missed by their children, Drayton Lagacé, Hanna Demeter, and Joshua Rozon, and their first grandchild, Charlotte Ruby Erika Demeter, who was born on December 29, 2025. Dave and Michelle had been so anxious to meet her.

They will also be missed by Dave’s parents, Sharon and Jacques Lagacé; his sister, Kelly Lagacé; niece Brandi (Kevin) Plantz; grandnephew Jacq Bzowy; Michelle’s brothers, Clay (Terri) and Tyler; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews on both sides of the family.

They were predeceased by Michelle’s mother, Marie Crummy; her stepfather, Jim Sewchuk; and Dave’s uncles, Everett Michalchuk, Bill Gould, and Lynn MacKellar.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St). Following the service, friends are invited to join the family in Tranquille Hall for refreshments. Interment will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Family Education Society (cheque payable to Grande Prairie Family Education Society: 9607 102 Street, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2T8).

Michelle stood by me during some of the hardest moments in the daycare, offering support when I felt overwhelmed and strength when I needed it most. Her kindness, patience, and unwavering compassion made those challenging days easier to face. I will always carry deep gratitude for the care she showed me and the warmth she brought into our lives. She will be truly missed and forever remembered. Prayers and sympathy for the bereaved family.

Davey was a few years older than me, so growing up he was alway the 'cool cousin' that I looked up to. I continued to think of him as my cool cousin even as we got older. In 2018, Davey and Michelle came to my wedding and partway through the night Michelle joined the band and sang the song, "Midnight Special". What a gift. She had an incredible voice and stage presence that had everyone up and dancing. I realized that my cool cousin had found a very cool partner. They were a couple with a wonderful, joyful spirit. Love and Hugs from your Yellowknife family. Michelle & Pierre

Prayer and condolences to the family of Michelle and her husband David. I have known Michelle for almost 3 years within the ELCC sector as a professional colleague/friend. She was an exuberant person who brightened up any room. Her passion for childcare was quite evident. Michelle was a mentor to those she worked with. Her presence will be truly missed by myself and many who worked alongside of her. May God's peace be felt during your time of loss and grieving.

I had the privilege of working with Michelle these past few years and though most of our interactions were virtual, I always looked forward to our conversations and the laughs we shared. It was clear she had a passion for supporting the wellbeing of children and educators and she will be deeply missed. All stories she shared of her family were shared with pride and deep love. Praying that her memory will be kept alive and that in time the sadness of losing her way too soon will eventually be comforted.
