Obituary For Clifford James Dunn

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Clifford James Dunn at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the age of 87 years.

Cliff was born in Rosetown, SK, on October 14, 1936, to Oscar and Jessie Dunn. He was the third eldest of five children.

Cliff married Dorothy Evelyn Lewis in 1960 and they welcomed their daughter, Carol, that year too. They moved to Grande Prairie, AB, in 1961 and welcomed their son, Jim. A year later they had Donna, completing their family.

Cliff had different jobs throughout the years. but started his career in Grande Prairie, in a lumber yard and then moved on to McGavin’s Bread. He had started a few businesses with partners, including Peace Country Snacks, XL Earth Moving, C & J Trucking to name a few. Cliff met and befriended so many people over the years and was very well-known in the community and surrounding area.

In Cliff’s younger years, he played beer league hockey and coached Jim’s hockey teams as Jim progressed through the leagues. In Cliff’s later years, he battled dementia.

Cliff was a perpetual prankster…always the life of the party and willing to lend a hand (however that hand, might not necessarily be attached to anything) lol. He also loved tinkering around the house and garage, fixing things that weren’t necessarily broken but, were when he “fixed” them.

He and Ev had a very active social life. They loved going out dancing and to parties with their friends. They loved to entertain friends and family, especially for the Grey Cup! He also loved garage sales and was somewhat of a “collector”. He had at least two or more of everything.

They enjoyed camping and family holidays to the farm as well to see relatives back in Saskatchewan. They also enjoyed many trips abroad to Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Spain, and the Dominican Republic.

Cliff leaves behind his children: Carol (Bo) Zaleski of Penticton, BC, Jim (Karen) Dunn, and Donna (Brian) Descoteaux of Grande Prairie; grandchildren: Nicole Thompson, Sarah Hudson (Descoteaux), Gavin Dunn, Kallyn Dunn, Mark Zaleski, Brandon Descoteaux, and Derek Zaleski; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Cliff was predeceased by his parents and siblings; wife Dorothy Evelyn Dunn in 2017, and his grandson Gavin Dunn in 2014.

A Memorial service will be held to honor Clifford towards the end of the summer.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories or another charity of one’s choice.
