Obituary For Christian John Jentink

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Christian John Jentink, resident of Wembley, AB, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 83 years.

John was born in the Netherlands on May 31, 1942, to John and Fredrika Jentink. He had four siblings: two brothers and two sisters. In 1948, the family of seven immigrated to Canada.

John started working at quite a young age. Much time was spent helping his dad on the farm, and at one point, he bought his own farm. Eventually, he chose a different path, beginning an extensive and successful career with Consolidated Concrete and, later, Wapiti Gravel. There, he gained the opportunity to work with and meet people throughout the Peace Country. For those who got to know John, it was evident he had a strong work ethic and a witty sense of humour.

John had incredible patience and a love for gardening. He greatly enjoyed his greenhouse and famous flower beds. His pride and joy was the house he built on the mountain for his family. John found and cleared the land, planted trees, and built a magnificent rock and wood home. Rocks that he gathered from all over the Peace Country were used for everything from the basement to an amazing fireplace.

Travelling was another of John’s passions. He and Lorraine went on many trips, driving throughout the Peace Country and BC. John also loved exploring the countryside with his children, going on picnics to O’Brien, Pipestone, or just a spot he found off the beaten path.

John will be sadly missed by his wife, Lorraine; sons, George (Tara) Stinson and Gerry (Jennifer) Stinson; daughters, Theresa Jentink (Ken Kondratiuk), Jackie Davies (Crickett), and Brandie (Rob) Janes; grandchildren, Cody, Brandon, Taylor (Julia), Matthew, Josh (Austyn), and Brooklyn; and great-grandchildren, Khai and Walker.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Fredrika Jentink; sisters, Chris Gibney and Reika Thurman; brothers, Frederick and Jan Hendrik Jentink; and son-in-law, Brad Crickett.

As Helen Keller once said, “When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”

A private family gathering will be held in celebration of John’s life.

I'm so sorry to read about John's passing. He truly was the best co worker anyone could have. He had nothing but respect and encouragement for all of us in the Wapiti Gravel office. Lorraine and family my heart goes out to you all.

Rest peacefully, Grandpa. I'll forever hold onto the memories we shared, and keep you in my thoughts for the rest of my time here. I'm sorry we didn't get to hang out that one last time like we said, I wish we had been closer.. I'm sure you have the nicest garden up there. Until next time Love your Grandson Cody

You were the rock of our family Papa- a quiet, gentle soul who asked for nothing and gave everything. The mountain is not the same Papa but I know you are here, I feel your presence and will spend the rest of my life honoring the man I was so proud to call my Dad. I know your journey was not an easy one but, the struggles are over and you can finally enjoy eternal peace, as you watch over the mountain. I miss you so much Papa and cant wait to see you again - rest in peace and know I will keep my promise...I love you Dad forever... until will meet again❤️
